The effect of an intervention programme to improve health education leaflet uptake and distribution in community pharmacies.

The effect of an intervention programme to improve health education leaflet uptake in community pharmacies was conducted with a small convenience sample of 12 community pharmacies in North Staffordshire, UK. The intervention consisted of four different modes of leaflet provision. Modes 1 and 2 (without and with overt offer of advice from pharmacist respectively) relied upon the pharmacy client to actively obtain a leaflet, whereas Modes 3 and 4 (without and with offer of advice from pharmacist respectively) relied upon pharmacy staff to actively provide a leaflet. All 12 community pharmacies r…

Characteristics of the sore throat test and treat service in community pharmacies (STREP) in Wales: cross-sectional analysis of 11 304 consultations using anonymized electronic pharmacy records.

BACKGROUND: An NHS-funded sore throat test and treat (STTT) service was introduced in selected community pharmacies in Wales. Service users were screened using FeverPAIN/Centor scores, offered rapid antigen detection testing (RADT) to detect group A Streptococcus if appropriate, and supplied with antibiotics (by the pharmacist) if indicated. Following an initial evaluation, the service was rolled out nationally. OBJECTIVES: This study forms part of the long-term STTT evaluation. The aim was to describe characteristics of the service and service users, the delivery, service outcomes, patient s…

Value-based care contracting for pharmacy drugs: opportunity for the United States.

The onset of improved data interoperability required as a result of the 21st Century Cures Act, 92% Health Information Exchange coverage, and lessons learned from European pharmaceutical risk-sharing models present innovative and timely opportunities for the U.S. to adopt pharmaceutical value-based contracting (VBC), which uses drug-level performance to allocate financial risk between payers and manufacturers based on clinical and economic metrics. Having been piloted in Italy, Spain, and the UK, this analysis explores different contracting options and paths for organizations like CMS and inte

Historically Black Colleges and Universities as anchor institutions for the rural pharmacy workforce.

BACKGROUND: Rural U.S. communities face persistent pharmacist shortages and pharmacy closures that restrict access to medications, chronic disease management, and other essential care. Pharmacy workforce scholarship has paid little attention to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), although they educate a disproportionate share of Black pharmacists, several are located in or near the rural South, and their missions emphasize service to underserved communities. Rural workforce research rarely examines race, and HBCU health professions research rarely examines rural practice, lea

Insomnia Symptoms in Doctor of Pharmacy Students in the United States: A Multicenter Study.

INTRODUCTION: Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can negatively affect academic performance, mental health, and quality of life. This study evaluated the presence of insomnia across multiple institutions and characterized symptoms to inform targeted interventions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional, institutional review board-exempt survey of pharmacy students at nine schools in the United States between March and April 202

METHODS: Bilingual surveys were created and validated for pharmacy residency and degree programs and were administered through Qualtrics survey software. Each program was li

Paediatric-Pharmacy Shared Care Improves Access and Efficiency in Developmental Paediatrics.

BACKGROUND: Rising prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), has increased demand for developmental paediatric services. Ongoing medication review requirements place increasing pressure on paediatrician-led models. Pharmacist-led shared care may improve capacity and access; however, evidence in paediatric outpatient settings remains limited. AIM: To evaluate the impact of a paediatric-pharmacy shared-care model on wait times, service capacity and efficiency compared with medical-only care. METHODS

Nicotine pouches: Harm reduction or initiation pathway? A pharmacy-focused review.

BACKGROUND: Nicotine pouches (NPs) are a rapidly growing category of tobacco-free oral nicotine products increasingly available in the community, including pharmacies. Whether NPs primarily function as harm-reduction tools for existing tobacco users or as a novel initiation pathway into nicotine and tobacco use, particularly among youth, remains a critical and unresolved clinical and public health question. OBJECTIVES: To synthesize current evidence on the pharmacology, harm-reduction potential, and initiation risk of NPs; to compare NPs with FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) an…

Predictors of Perceived Organizational Innovation Among Allied Health and Pharmacy Professionals.

PURPOSE: Rising healthcare costs have intensified the need for innovation within healthcare systems, with organizational innovation being seen as a key enabler for the development of strategies to improve affordability and accessibility for long-term sustainable health care delivery. While research has long examined innovation among physicians and nurses, studies focusing on Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and pharmacists are nascent. This study investigates the innovation culture among AHPs and pharmacists in Singapore's largest healthcare cluster. It specifically examines how components o
