Developing efficient, narrow-band, and environmentally friendly emitters is crucial for advanced optoelectronics. Herein, we report a zero-dimensional (0D) organic-inorganic hybrid manganese(ii) halide, (TPS)2MnBr4 (TPS = triphenylsulfonium), engineered via cation selection. This material simultaneously achieves near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY ≈ 99.6%) and exceptionally narrow green emission (FWHM = 40 nm) for a Mn2+ emitter. Structural analysis and theoretical calculations reveal that the rigid TPS+ cation induces a specific crystal packing that minimizes [MnBr4]2- tetrahedra

Manganese dioxide is a material with varied and interesting applications, especially including energy storage, the elimination of organic contaminants, and the removal of toxic atoms and molecules that pollute the environment. In this paper, the adsorption of toxic atoms of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) on the surface of a 1T-MnO2 monolayer is investigated using first-principles calculations. The calculated values of the adsorption energy show that the most energetically favorable site for the Cd and Pb atoms is PMn. This occurs when a Cd or Pb atom is located just above a Mn atom, with adsorptio

Lanthanum hydride compounds LaH3 become stabilized by yttrium substitution under the influence of moderate pressure. Novel materials with a wide range of changes in the structural properties as a function of hydrogen are investigated by means of the first-principles cluster expansion technique. Herein, the new compounds La1-x Y x H3, where 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, are determined to adopt tetragonal structures under high-pressure with the compositions La0.8Y0.2H3, La0.75Y0.25H3, and La0.5Y0.5H3. The corresponding thermodynamic and dynamical stabilities of the predicted phases are confirmed by a series of cal

Nonradiative electron-hole recombination constitutes a major route for charge and energy losses in copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS) solar cells. Using a combination of nonadiabatic (NA) molecular dynamics and deep neural networks (DNN), we demonstrated that electron-hole recombination is notably retarded by doping with Ag and Ag+Cd. The replacement of lighter Cu and/or Zn with heavier Ag and/or Cd reduces the NA coupling by separating electron and hole wave functions. Such replacement suppresses atomic motions and makes the phonon modes move to low-frequency region, which reduces NA coupling fur

Recent measurements have set a new record for the superconducting transition temperature (Tc ) at which a material losses electrical resistivity and exhibits ideal diamagnetism. Theory-oriented experiments show that the compressed hydride of Group VI (hydrogen sulfide, H3S) exhibits a superconducting state at 203 K. Moreover, a Group V hydride (phosphorus hydride, PH3) has also been studied and its Tc reached a maximum of 103 K. The experimental realisation of the superconductivity in H3S and PH3 inspired us to search for other hydride superconductors. Herein, we report theoretical studies of

We report a simple and effective way of fabricating high-quality carbon nanoscrolls (CNSs), using isopropyl alcohol solution to roll up monolayer graphene predefined on SiO(2)/Si substrates. Transmission electron microscopy studies reveal that the CNS has a tube-like structure with a hollow core surrounded by graphene walls 0.35 nm apart. Raman spectroscopy studies show that the CNS is free of significant defects, and the electronic structure and phonon dispersion are slightly different from those of two-dimensional graphene. Finally, the CNS-based device is fabricated, directly on the SiO(2)/

Manipulation of quantum systems for sensing and transduction rely on controlling the interactions between a quantum system and the many degrees of freedom of the bath. In molecular spin quantum systems, spin-orbit coupling serves as a conduit for energy dissipation via vibrational and phonon modes, which in turn are dictated by changes in oxidation state, metal-ligand covalency, and symmetry of the coordination sphere. The confluence of these factors complicate design strategies however for manipulation of spin qubits for quantum sensing and transduction strategies. Here, we report an investig

A stable 2D van der Waals (vdW) heterobilayer, constituted by boron monophosphide (BP) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) monolayers, has been explored for different kinds of energy conversion and nanoelectronics. The nearly matched lattice constants of GaN and BP are commensurate with each other in their lattice structures. The out-of-plane inversion asymmetry coupled with the large difference in atomic charges between the GaN and BP monolayers induces in the heterobilayer a giant out-of-plane piezoelectric coefficient (|d33|max ≈ 40 pm V-1), which is the highest ever reported in 2D materials of a fin

Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures allow the engineering of magnetic and electronic properties via interfacial orbital hybridization and charge transfer. The resulting electric fields can give rise to Rashba spin-orbit coupling and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions, which may stabilize novel two-dimensional magnetic phases. While such emergent magnetic 'interphases' may offer a promising platform for spin-based electronics, direct spectroscopic evidence for them is still lacking. Here, we report electric-field tunable Zeeman effects with Landé g-factors up to ≈ 230 at the interface of grap

Bismuth halides Bi4X4 (X = Br, I) consist of quasi-one-dimensional van der Waals chains whose interchain stacking can be reshaped by pressure, potentially reprogramming topology. Using CALYPSO structure searches with first-principles enthalpy ranking, we uncover a previously unreported C2/m phase of Bi4Br4 featuring a novel AA″ stacking that becomes stable above ∼4 GPa and persists to at least 15 GPa. We map the transformation from known β-Bi4Br4 (AA stacking): under compression β develops an imaginary phonon mode, appears as a first-order saddle point in the crystal-solution landscape, and re

Percolative superconductivity frequently arises in two-dimensional van der Waals materials due to reduced dimensionality, enhanced quantum fluctuations, and complex electron-phonon interactions, providing a unique platform where normal electrons coexist with Cooper pairs. We report the observation of substantial third-order nonlinear transport in a trilayer 1T^{'}-MoTe_{2} superconductor within its percolative transition regime. The third-harmonic longitudinal voltage (V_{∥}^{3ω}) exhibits a clear cubic dependence on excitation current below a threshold, with both its magnitude and nonlinear c

Nanoscale thermometry and magnetometry are in high demand across a wide range of scientific and technological applications. In this context, optically addressable spins in solids have emerged at the forefront of on-chip quantum sensing. However, simultaneous quantum sensing of multiple parameters (e.g., temperature and magnetic field) using the same spin sensor remains challenging due to cross-sensitivity to multiple physical quantities. Here, we demonstrate independent dual sensing of temperature and magnetic field using spin-1/2 transitions within the spin complex quantum emitters in hexagon

In this work, we systematically investigate the structural, vibrational, electronic, and transport properties of a series of novel Janus TeWZH (Z = N, P, As) monolayers using density functional theory. Our results confirm that these materials are structurally stable and exhibit semiconducting behavior with band gaps ranging from 1.42 to 2.19 eV at the HSE06 level of theory (calculated without spin-orbit coupling). Key findings include significant valence band splitting at the K-point (up to 0.49 eV) induced by strong spin-orbit coupling, and a robust out-of-plane piezoelectric response (with a

Two new complexes derived from the unusual AgII cation, with the formulas [Ag(cyclam)(BF4)2] (1) (cyclam = aza-crown 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) and [Ag(tBu-bpy)2(S2O8)] (2) (tBu-bpy = 4,4'-bis(tert-butyl)-2,2'-bipyridine), have been synthesized and structurally, magnetically and spectroscopically characterized. The use of a combination of their magnetic response under an alternating field and ultralow Raman spectroscopy revealed that the two complexes exhibit slow relaxation of magnetization induced by spin-phonon interactions. CW-EPR and UV-Vis spectroscopy methods have been performed

Quantum sensors based on spin defects have become powerful tools for detecting faint magnetic signals, yet their operation remains confined to low magnetic fields and gigahertz frequencies. Extending such sensors into high-field (>0.3 T) and subterahertz regimes would enable quantum metrology across a wide range of electromagnetic phenomena and scientific applications, but has proven challenging. Here, we demonstrate that negatively charged boron vacancies (VB-) in hexagonal boron nitride can function as relaxation-based quantum sensors operating up to 0.2 terahertz and 7 T fields. Their unifo

Understanding the atomic-scale dynamics of liquids in the terahertz (THz) regime remains challenging because liquids sustain phonon-like collective excitations governed by complex interactions. To clarify the role of hydrogen bonding in such dynamics, we performed inelastic neutron scattering on hydrogen sulfide (H_{2}S) and its deuterated form (D_{2}S), molecular analogues of water without a hydrogen-bonded network. By combining coherent and incoherent measurements, we show that liquid H_{2}S exhibits a clear fast-sound mode, with a propagation velocity about twice the adiabatic sound speed,

The topological properties of the A15-type compound Ti3Pd reveal a complex landscape of multi-fold fermionic and bosonic states, as uncovered through ab initio calculations within the framework of density functional theory (DFT). The electronic band structure shows multi-fold degenerate crossings at the high-symmetry point R near the Fermi level, which evolves into 4-fold and 8-fold degenerate fermionic states upon the introduction of spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Likewise, the phononic band structure features multi-fold degenerate bosonic crossings at the same R point. Topological analysis, incl

The chiral spatial structure of chiral perovskite materials enriches the physical and optical properties of perovskite materials, making them an excellent platform to deeply understand charge-spin-photon interactions. In this work, we fabricated chiral perovskite crystals and their nonchiral isomeric counterparts. The significant differences in the crystal structures of these two types of materials lead to notable variations in their fluorescence lifetimes and electron-phonon coupling strength, which present an externally presentable change in physical properties, such as the dielectric consta

Iodine vacancies (VI) are widely regarded as the dominant recombination centers, limiting the photovoltaic performance of halide perovskites. However, most studies neglect the influence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the stability of defect configurations during structural modeling. Here, we investigate the impact of SOC on the structure and carrier dynamics of the VI- in the CsPbI3 system by using ab initio nonadiabatic molecular dynamics with time-dependent density functional theory. Our study demonstrates that SOC significantly alters the stable configuration of VI-, allowing the nondimer

Surface waves, the evanescent solutions of the wave equation at planar discontinuities, are of fundamental importance in surface physics, optics, phononics, electronics, and magnetism. Here, we predict that van der Waals antiferromagnets support surface spin waves that are unique by their extreme (nanoscale) confinement and high group velocity with application potential in ultrafast, nanoscale magnonic devices. These excitations reside within the bulk magnon band gap of type-A van der Waals antiferromagnets (antiferromagnetically coupled ferromagnetic monolayers). In contrast to conventional m
