Seizures are common in patients with gliomas, and phenytoin (PHT) is frequently used to control tumor-related seizures. PHT, however, has many undesirable side effects (SEs) and drug interactions with glioma chemotherapy. Levetiracetam (LEV) is a newer antiepileptic drug (AED) with fewer SEs and essentially no drug interactions. Nine patients are described in whom psychopharmacotherapy was associated with the development of rare complications in the form of the syndrome of cortical disturbances, psychosensory disorders and toxic polyneuropathy. PURPOSE: This study aims to describe the incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in children receiving antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and compare ADRs to the individual drugs when given as monotherapy.
METHOD: Paediatric patients (≤18 years old) were enrolled for this prospective observational study over a 6-month period, between September 2015 and March 2016. Adverse reactions to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) were elicited at the time of enrolment and after 3 months using the Paediatric Epilepsy Side Effects Questionnaire.

Seizures constitute a determining aspect in quality of life and are frequently challenging in palliative care-a field where treatment has yet to be standardised. Levetiracetam-a new generation anticonvulsant-has proved efficacy both through oral, as well as intravenous administration in the general population. INTRODUCTION: Patients with Down syndrome (DS) who exhibit Alzheimer disease (AD) are associated with age. Both diseases with a common neuropathological basis have been associated with late-onset myoclonic epilepsy (LOMEDS). This entity presents electroencephalogram features as generalized polyspike-wave discharges.

The foetal outcomes of 2,635 pregnancies recorded in the Australian Pregnancy Register were studied. We studied 279 women, aged 18-40 years old, with epilepsy. AIM: To monitor the effect of adding levetiracetam in paediatric patients with hemiplegic cerebral palsy and uncontrolled epilepsy.
METHODS: A case series of eight patients with hemiplegic cerebral palsy whose focal seizures were not adequately controlled by their current anticonvulsants were monitored after levetiracetam was added to their medications. If there was a 50% reduction in seizure frequency, then the other anticonvulsants were discontinued. Prolonged follow-up occurred for a minimum of 2 years.
