BACKGROUND: Overnight polysomnography is expensive and time consuming. An approach based on a logistic regression model and overnight pulse oximetry has been developed to determine which of the snorers referred to our sleep laboratory need polysomnography.

This case report including polysomnography shows reversal of central sleep apnea after opioid withdrawal. A patient using opioids for pain was diagnosed with central sleep apnea (CSA), but was not compliant with therapy. Five years later he underwent detoxification. Subsequent polysomnography showed no sleep disordered breathing. This is the first report of correction of CSA following opioid withdrawal confirmed by polysomnogram.

Parasomnias are common sleep disorders in children, and most cases resolve naturally by adolescence.(1) They represent arousal disorders beginning in NREM sleep and are generally non-concerning in children. It causes poor quality sleep and thus subsequent somnolence in daytime, it leads to periodic oxygen desaturation and has serious cardiovascular consequences.
