The article describes the case of eclectic individual psychotherapy of a dysthymic patient. The therapeutic process integrated elements of the following psychotherapeutic approaches: psychodynamic, behavioural-cognitive, systemic, interpersonal, existential and Gestalt. The paper discusses history of treatment, diagnosis of dysthymia, indications for psychotherapy, course of the sessions. Anamnesis, factors contributing to the disorder, triggers and factors sustaining the symptoms, personality factors were also analysed. Therapeutic goals and applied techniques are presented.

With the example of two case reports of chronic wounds the connection between somatic and psycho-social factors is shown on the basis of the biopsycho-social model of disease. Both in aetiology as well as in therapy the dilemma of "somatic OR psychic" can thereby be solved. The inclusion of psychotherapeutic interventions in conservative or surgical strategies increases the probability of healing.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be an effective symptomatic treatment for panic attacks; however, this paper recommends complementing it with an approach based on an interactive ecological model. Women who are at high risk for developing breast cancer increasingly consult with psychiatrists about the psychological, social, and sexual consequences of genetic testing and risk-reducing surgeries such as bilateral mastectomy and oophorectomy. The 9-year psychotherapy with a woman who had bilateral mastectomy because of her family history of breast cancer and who later tested negative for BRCA1 is described and discussed.

This study aimed to identify patient factors that predict early dropout from psychodynamic psychotherapy for borderline personality disorder (BPD). Thirty-six BPD patients began an open-ended course of twice per week psychodynamic psychotherapy that was defined in a treatment manual and supervised. Dropout rates were 31% and 36% at 3 and 6 months of therapy, respectively. The present paper assesses the state of the art of psychotherapy of bulimia nervosa. Five hundred and fifty publications available up to April 1990 were systematically screened. We studied the relationship of dispositional and process variables with outcome in 52 bereaved patients given time-limited dynamic psychotherapy. Outcomes were generally favorable in symptom relief and improvement in relationship and occupational functioning. Patients' symptoms improved more than did their social and work functioning.
