Isolated dislocation of the distal radio-ulnar joint and isolated dislocation of the radial head in adults are not common injuries. A simultaneous dislocation of the radial head and distal radio-ulnar joint with no other injury seems to be extremely rare since only one report was found in the English literature. A similar case, but with some differences in presentation and treatment is reported.

We studied one case in which the application of RFA was used for colorectal liver metastases with cirrhosis. The patient was a 51-year-old male. Sigmoid colon cancer and hepatocellular cancer (S5, S6, S8) were diagnosed before surgery. We present the results of a retrospective series of 41 Sauve-Kapandji procedures carried out for complications of fractures of the distal radius. All the operations were undertaken by one surgeon with a mean follow-up of 32 months. A total of 37 patients was available for clinical review. The indications for surgery were pain on the ulnar side of the wrist and decreased rotation of the forearm. The acute management of fractures involving the distal radio-ulnar joint and distal ulna is controversial. The primary goal is recognition and differentiation between stable and unstable fracture patterns. In a 4-year period (1988-1991) 122 patients with a squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus were studied prospectively and analysed. 64 patients of them could be primary resected (primary resectability rate 52%), 36 patients were in general inoperable and 22 patients had an advanced stage of cancer with local inoperability. Studies were carried out on the radioallergosorbent test (R.A.S.T.) in comparison with the Elisa for the diagnosis of schistosomiasis. Using sera from known S. mansoni, S. haematobium and both S. mansoni and S. haematobium cases, R.A.S.T. showed high sensitivity; 72%, 55% and 75% respectively, in the detection and quantification of specific IgE antibodies. While in case of ELISA only 20% of patients were positive. With control sera, both tests showed 100% negative. It is concluded that R.A.S.T. is more specific and superior than ELISA for IgE detection in schistosomiasis.

Radio-isotope bone scanning was used to detect osteomalacia in 17 elderly subjects who had equivocal biochemical evidence of this condition. The scan was positive in 10 of the 17 subjects. Bone biopsy confirmed osteomalacia in all 10, but also identified a further two cases. Isotope bone scanning is a practical and relatively non-invasive method of detecting osteomalacia in elderly subjects.

The case is reported of a man of 66 with attacks of recurrent supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) which failed to respond to the standard medical treatment and which, because of their frequency, led to mental disturbances. The electrophysiological features of SVT are discussed, and the possibilities of recording potentials from the SA node. A definitive pacemaker was placed in the coronary sinus, and linked to a simple stimulator working at radio frequency (and activated by the patient himself); this led to an almost immediate reduction in the attacks of SVT.

The evolution of 50 hydatidiform moles was followed through repeated radioimmunoassays of choriogonadotropin (hCG), either in urine or plasma. In 37 cases a spontaneous regular decrease was observed, but it generally slowed down after the first week.
