A pH-Sensitive and ROS-Responsive Hydrogel Enhanced by Arginine-Derived Carbon Dots for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Infected Wounds.

Effective repair of infected wounds requires both precise elimination of bacteria in the host and accelerated healing, yet strategies that i … y responses. In a rat model of infected wounds, this "sense‑and‑act" hydrogel accomplishes complete re-epithelialization and vascularized closure within 14 days, outperforming commercial Ag+ dressings. Collectively, these findings establish a promising platform for the simultaneous diagnosis and treatment of infected wounds.

P311 induces the transdifferentiation of epidermal stem cells to myofibroblast-like cells by stimulating transforming growth factor β1 expression.

BACKGROUND: Epithelial to mesenchymal transition, especially to myofibroblasts, plays an important role in wound healing, fibrosis, and carcinogenesis. Epidermal stem cells (EpSCs) are responsible for epidermal renewal and wound re-epithelialization. However, it remains unclear whether and how EpSCs transdifferentiate into myofibroblasts or myofibroblast-like cells (MFLCs). Here, we provide the first evidence showing that P311 induces EpSC to MFLC transdifferentiation (EpMyT) via TGFβ1/Smad signaling. METHODS: Wound healing and mesenchymal features were observed in the P311 KO and P311 WT mou…

Comparison of four carbon dioxide resurfacing lasers. A clinical and histopathologic evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Several high-energy, pulsed and scanned carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers are currently available for cutaneous resurfacing. Although … s postoperatively by three physicians. Degree of lesional improvement as well as erythema severity, re-epithelialization rates, and presence of side effects were recorded. Blinded histologic examination of laser-treated quadrants was performed to determine the amount of tissue ablation, residual thermal damage, inflammation, and new collagen synthesis. RESULTS: The f …

Sustained in situ exosome delivery reprograms the diabetic wound microenvironment to unlock immuno-angiogenic repair.

Chronic diabetic wounds persist because inflammation, oxidative stress and impaired angiogenesis create a hostile microenvironment. We devel … a splinted full-thickness STZ-induced diabetic rat model, EE@PG accelerated wound closure, enhanced re-epithelialization and collagen remodeling and increased neovascularization and vessel maturation. Transcriptomic analysis supported a shift toward immune resolution and tissue repair programs. Hemolysis, serum chemistry and organ histology indicated favorable biosafe …

Emerging Treatments for Persistent Corneal Epithelial Defects.

Persistent corneal epithelial defects (PCEDs) are a challenging ocular condition characterized by the failure of complete corneal epithelial healing after an insult or injury, even after 14 days of standard care. There is a lack of therapeutics that target this condition and encourage re-epithelialization of the corneal surface in a timely and efficient manner. This review aims to provide an overview of current standards of management for PCEDs, highlighting novel, emerging treatments in this field. While many of the current non-surgical treatments aim to provide lubrication and mechanical sup…

Calcium Peroxide-Based Hydrogel Patch with Sustainable Oxygenation for Diabetic Wound Healing.

Nonhealing diabetic wounds are predominantly attributed to the inhibition of angiogenesis, re-epithelialization, and extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis caused by hypoxia. Although oxygen therapy has demonstrated efficacy in promoting healing, its therapeutic impact remains suboptimal due to unsustainable oxygenation. Here, this work proposes an oxygen-releasing hydrogel patch embedded with polyethylene glycol-modified calcium peroxide microparticles, which sustainably releases oxygen for 7 days without requiring any supplementary conditions. The released oxygen effectively promotes cell migr…
