Restoration with a posterior CAD/CAM onlay after failure of a direct resin-based composite restoration: a case report.

A conservative approach to restoration assists in preserving the remaining tooth structure of extensively destroyed vital teeth. This case report describes a single-appointment chairside technique for placement of ceramic restorations in posterior teeth. A patient presented for treatment of her mandibular right first molar, which had a fractured resin-based composite restoration. Due to the presence of vital pulp, extent of the restoration, and presence of caries in the tooth, the following treatment plan was proposed: placement of a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic onlay fabricated with a com

Development and Evaluation of Insulation Materials for Deepwater Cementing.

Marine oil and gas resources are abundant in deepwater regions, where the shallow seabed harbors natural gas hydrate layers due to the cold temperature and high-pressure environment. Hydrates are prone to thermal decomposition, which can compromise the integrity of cement sealing and even lead to accidents like blowouts. While current low-hydrated heat cement systems mitigate hydrate decomposition from cement hydration heat during the waiting period for cementing, they do not address heat transfer from deep strata to shallow hydrate layers through fluid circulation in the tubing during deep oi

Comparison of Various Surface Treatment Procedures on the Roughness and Susceptibility to Staining of Provisional Prosthodontic Materials.

Esthetically pleasing temporary prostheses are often necessary for extended periods in a variety of clinical scenarios. Adjustments to the occlusion or margins are commonly needed before cementing the temporary prosthesis. Therefore, it is clinically necessary to repolish the rough surface to avoid biological and esthetic issues associated with rough surfaces. The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess and compare the impact of various polishing protocols on the surface roughness and color stability of three resin materials used for provisional crowns. A total of 150 specimens were fabri

Effect of two cavity designs on root surface marginal microleakage.

Current methods for bonding composite resins rely upon the etching of enamel to attain a bond that is strong enough to resist polymerization shrinkage and decrease the amount of marginal microleakage. Previously, modification of cavity designs have been evaluated that have enhanced retention. However, all these cavity designs have utilized methods to increase the surface area of enamel to bond thus resulting in a stronger enamel bond. This in vitro study evaluated the effect of one cavity design modification when the restoration is placed entirely on cemental surfaces and relied on only cement

Giving the pulp another chance: a case report of vital pulp therapy retreatment.

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) has been increasingly advocated due to its advantages in preserving tooth vitality. While VPT is often successful, failures can occur, and traditional root canal therapy is often recommended following VPT failure. This case report provides an example of successful preservation of tooth vitality using coronal pulpotomy (CP), a more invasive type of VPT, after failure of partial pulpotomy (PP) that had been performed in a healthy 10-year-old boy. A mandibular right first molar with a diagnosis of reversible pulpitis was initially treated with PP, which included the use o
