A brief measure for the assessment of coping self-efficacy among alcohol and other drug users.

AIMS: To develop a reliable and valid brief measure of coping self-efficacy for substance users to serve the needs of clinicians and researchers who desire a global measure of a client's confidence across high-risk situations. The eight-item global measure of self-efficacy was derived from the Drug-Taking Confidence Questionnaire (DTCQ), a 50-item self-report measure of situation-specific coping self-efficacy applicable to alcohol and other drug users. DESIGN: The questionnaire was administered by trained staff to clients at intake to treatment. Items were selected using stepwise regression.

Constructivist self-development theory: a theoretical framework for assessing and treating traumatized college students.

The authors present a new conceptual framework for assessing and treating traumatized college students. The framework, constructivist self-development theory (CSDT), blends object relations, self-psychology, and social cognition theories. It is founded upon a constructivist view of trauma in which the individual's unique history shapes his or her experience of traumatic events and defines the adaptation to trauma. Within this theory, the authors suggest approaches to setting the frame for trauma therapy, including stabilizing acute symptoms and setting appropriate expectations for treatment. C

[The connection between videoanalytic regular measurements of non-verbal behavior and self-assessed mood].

13 manic-depressive patients were examined during a symptom-free interval while under treatment with lithium, and again after a 6-week placebo period. The results are based on a behavioral analysis of video-taped interviews as well as a self-rating of mood with a multidimensional questionnaire (Hecheltjen & Mertesdorf, MSF). This questionnaire was presented on the day of the interviews. The following parameters were examined: 1. Duration of speech activity, 2. Frequency of hand movements accompanying speech, 3. Frequency of discrete body touchings. In order to clarify the interdependency of th

A refined atomistic model of functionalized self-assembled monolayers on gold: Assessment of force field parameters.

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkanethiols on gold surfaces are important for various technological applications, such as electroanalytical sensors, organic electronic devices, and catalysts. However, providing a consistent computational description of the unique structural features of these SAMs, such as adsorption patterns, chain conformations, and superlattice arrangements, is challenging, particularly within a versatile computational framework that can simulate both the structural features of these systems and their irradiation-driven chemical transformations. This study systematical

A Cost-Effective Screening Inflammation Indicator for Atopic Dermatitis Suitable for Primary Care and Self-Assessment.

Background/Objectives: Atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic inflammatory skin condition, significantly impairs quality of life but remains underdiagnosed in primary care. Blood-cell-count-derived inflammatory indices are emerging as cost-effective biomarkers, but their pathological relevance to AD is limited and requires further discussion. Methods: We developed the Atopic Inflammation Index (AII), a novel blood-cell-based biomarker reflecting AD pathogenesis, and initially assessed its levels in AD patients and healthy controls using clinical samples from Shanghai, China. We then analyzed data f

Revealing gender differences in concussion reporting: a detailed analysis of SCAT assessment self-report symptom ratings.

INTRODUCTION: Current concussion assessments used by the NCAA are generally applied to both male and female athletes to evaluate the effects of sports-related head impacts. However, increasing evidence indicates that female athletes show different physiological and psychosocial responses to concussions compared to their male counterparts, raising concerns about the suitability of gender blind concussion assessments. METHODS: This study analyzes data from N = 1,021 NCAA athletes (379 females, 642 males) who completed the SCAT3 Symptom Severity Checklist after a concussion. A systematic use of

Measurement of self-reported, facility-based labour and birth experiences: The Perinatal Experience Assessment Tool (PEAT).

BACKGROUND: Women and their families make decisions on accessing perinatal care based on their experiences in the health care system and on the experience of others around them. Receiving supportive maternity care which demonstrates respect is an essential part of quality care. Globally, and in low- and middle-income countries in particular, women report receiving mistreatment and a lack of respect during labour, childbirth and the early postnatal period. These experiences, if negative, may influence choices around place of birth, thus hindering the scale-up of facility-based births. METHODS:

Mobile App-Based Self-Report Questionnaires for the Assessment and Monitoring of Bipolar Disorder: Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder is a chronic, progressive illness characterized by recurrent episodes of mania and depression. Self-report scales have historically played a significant role in the monitoring of bipolar symptoms. However, these tools rely on episodic memory, which can be unreliable and do not allow the clinician to monitor brief episodic symptoms or the course of symptoms over shorter periods of time. Mobile app-based questionnaires have been suggested as a tool to improve monitoring of patients with bipolar disorder. OBJECTIVE: This paper aims to determine the feasibility and va
