However, social, stigma, perceived harassment, rampant gender stereotypes, the unwillingness of, family, disbelief of the victim, and threats by the perpetrator are a few of the many, barriers to mandatory reporting in the Indian context. Weapon carrying and substance abuse among college students.

Results from administering the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey on 61 US campuses during the 1994/95 academic year were analyzed to assess weapon carrying among college students. Seven percent of the 26,225 students (11.1% of the men and 4.3% of the women) responded that they had carried weapons (gun, knife, etc) during the last 30 days. A comparison with a matched sample of nonweapon carriers revealed that a greater percentage of the armed than the unarmed students had experienced harassment, violence, and threats of violence, and that they felt less safe on their campuses. Use of Peer-Based Motivational Interviewing to Reduce Alcohol Use and Sexual Violence Among U.S. Sailors: A Feasibility Study.

INTRODUCTION: Risky drinking and sexual violence (SV; i.e., sexual harassment, sexual assault) affect U.S. military personnel, potentially compromising operational readiness. Drinking and SV often co-occur in social settings, making a behavioral risk intervention focused on peers ideal for implementation with military personnel. Here, we present findings from phase 1 of a 3-phase project to develop a peer-based motivational intervention (PMI) aimed at reducing risky drinking and SV among U.S. service members. In this phase we sought to understand sailors' perspectives on alcohol use and SV in …

The influence of military sexual trauma on returning OEF/OIF male veterans.

Military sexual trauma (MST) encompasses experiences of sexual harassment and/or assault that occur during active duty military service. MST is associated with postdeployment mental health, interpersonal, and physical difficulties and appears to be more influential in the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than other active duty experiences, including combat, among women veterans. Although some literature suggests that men who experience MST also evidence significant postdeployment difficulties, research in this area is lacking. The current study evaluated a large sample of re…
