In this research, irradiation by gamma rays was employed as an eco-friendly route for the construction of bimetallic silver-gold nanoparticles (Ag-Au NPs), while Gum Arabic polymer was used as a capping agent. We describe light and electron microscopic findings in three cases of pulmonary infection caused by capsule-deficient Cryptococcus neoformans (CDCN) and emphasize the value of the Fontana-Masson silver (FMS) stain in diagnosing cryptococcosis. Capsule-deficient C neoformans infections, including coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, typical cryptococcosis, blastomycosis, candidiasis, and pneumocystosis were used as controls. The tanning method using 7% silvernitrate and 2% mebromide solution for second degree burns in childhood is demonstrated. The advantages of this method are described as singular and painless application of the agent, little annoyance of the patient, bactericidal effect in second degree burns, low expenses and easy medical care. The procedure of tanning is preferred in treating burn injuries of the trunk and non mobile areas of the extremities. We report on indication, procedure of tanning and results in the treatment of 129 burned children.

Although sulfide is typically regarded as toxic to eukaryotic cells, it is avidly consumed by Tetrahymena pyriformis. That was observed only when the sulfide concentration was kept below 1 microM. Previously concentrations that were too high had been tested. A new device (Sulfidostat) was used to measure sulfide consumption in steady-state concentrations as low as 10(-12)M. The technique was validated non-biologically by slowly injecting AgNO(3) into buffer and using Ag(2)S precipitation to mimic sulfide consumption, confirming that rates of sulfide consumption could be measured independently
