BACKGROUND: Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) commonly occurs, but the histopathological features are not well characterized.
METHODS: A total of 21 PIH patients' medical charts were reviewed. Punch biopsies from lesional and perilesional normal skin were performed. Sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Fontana-Masson, NKI/beteb, microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF), CD68, c-kit, factor XIIIa, MMP-2 and MMP-9.

In this review article we summarize current knowledge on how variation on the DNA level influences human pigmentation including color variation of iris, hair, and skin. We review recent progress in the field of human pigmentation genetics by focusing on the genes and DNA polymorphisms discovered to be involved in determining human pigmentation traits, their association with diseases particularly skin cancers, and their power to predict human eye, hair, and skin colors with potential utilization in forensic investigations.

PURPOSE: Since some patients develop depigmentation of the trabecular meshwork in the course of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease, we examined the incidence of trabecular depigmentation and its correlation with other ocular findings and systemic symptoms.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical charts of 53 Japanese patients diagnosed with VKH disease. The scores of trabecular and limbal pigmentation of all patients were recorded.
