The cornea plays a pivotal role in visual quality, accounting for most of the eye's refractive power. It is also frequently affected by a wide range of pathological conditions. Accurate diagnostics are therefore fundamental for making therapeutic decisions. This review provides an overview of established and emerging methods for examining the cornea, ranging from slit-lamp biomicroscopy and vital dyes to corneal topography, tomography, pachymetry, assessments of the endothelium and nerves, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and biomechanical measurements.

A 7-year-old girl with a history of being in contact with a cat was referred to our department due to her 1-month unilateral blepharitis that was initially treated as a herpetic infection without amelioration. She experienced itching and loss of her right eyelashes (Figure 1). Her visual acuity was 20/20. The slit lamp examination revealed anterior blepharitis with madarosis, broken eyelashes, and lesions in right lower eyelid, while the left eyelids were normal.

Sixteen children and adolescents undergoing regular haemodialysis treatment were studied for the occurrence of metastatic calcifications. By the use of diphosphonate bone-scanning, roentgenography of the chest and skull and ocular slit lamp examination, generalized visceral calcification was diagnosed in two patients. No relationship between visceral calcification and biochemical, radiological or histological abnormalities of renal osteodystrophy was found. Our study demonstrates that visceral calcification also occurs in children with chronic renal failure and may be detected by scintigraphy.

We report the first case of intraocular gnathostomiasis from Central India. A 29-year-old male from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, presented with pain and redness of the right eye since 1 month. Slit lamp examination revealed anterior uveitis, multiple iris atrophic patches, and a live worm hooked on iris. The worm was removed through a small sclerocorneal tunnel. Microscopy confirmed Gnathostoma spinigerum. The patient was treated with oral albendazole and steroids. The case is reported because of its rarity.

A 64-year-old Caucasian man referred for decreased vision after selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). Slit lamp examination revealed diffuse corneal edema. Despite intensive topical treatment including steroids, corneal edema did not resolve; on the contrary, it advanced to bullous keratopathy. Corneal edema after SLT is an exceptionally rare complication and in all of the previous reports edema resolved with medical treatment. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report presenting persistent corneal edema after SLT.

A 74-year-old woman was referred to our institute due to persistent corneal edema after cataract surgery. Slit-lamp examination revealed severe total corneal edema (obscuring anterior chamber and iris). Using a very high frequency (VHF) ultrasound scanning system (Artemis 2, Ultralink LLC) descement's membrane detachment (DMD) was diagnosed. VHF ultrasound scanning system could be a useful instrument in detecting post-cataract surgery DMD especially in patients in which diagnosis is difficult due to significant corneal clouding.

PURPOSE: To report a rare case of corneal honeybee sting.
METHODS: The corneal honeybee stinger was removed under slit-lamp guidance using a 27-gauge needle.
RESULTS: Corneal edema resolved by 90% the next day after removal of the honeybee stinger without using topical steroids.
CONCLUSION: The patient's condition improved significantly after removal of the corneal honeybee stinger, and corneal edema disappeared. The patient was evaluated in 1 week and then 3 months with permanent mild central corneal opacity.

PURPOSE: To report an adverse side effect associated with topical latanoprost usage.
METHOD: Case report. A 76-year-old woman with primary open-angle glaucoma developed an iris cyst 5 weeks after beginning treatment with latanoprost. Clinical examinations and slit-lamp photographs were performed.
RESULTS: Latanoprost was discontinued. Periodic examinations disclosed that the iris cyst gradually diminished and finally disappeared within 3 weeks.
CONCLUSION: The formation of an iris cyst is a possible complication of topical latanoprost therapy.

This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the loss of quality of corneas stored in hypothermic preservation media during processing and evaluation in an eye bank. A cohort study was conducted using records from 422 donors (844 corneas) between January 1, 2022, and March 31, 2024. PURPOSE: To report the clinical manifestations of 199 patients with suspected conjunctival lymphoma, the associations between these features and the pathological diagnoses, and the prognosis of conjunctival lesions during long-term follow-up.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of 199 patients who underwent conjunctival biopsy on suspicion of conjunctival lymphoproliferative disease between January 2008 and June 2015. We focused on slit-lamp findings in the conjunctiva and the pathological diagnoses.
