PURPOSE: To define more completely the aqueous solubility of dantrolene in order to devise faster reconstitution techniques for use during malignant hyperthermia episodes.

We attempted to devise a preparation method for clinical samples that could be used for all antibiotics and antivirals. We studied thirteen antibiotics, including five penicillins, four cephalosporins, metronidazole, ofloxacin, and sulfamethoxazole and four protease inhibitors including indinavir, retonavir, nelfinavir, and sequinavir. Caffeine and theobromine were identified and quantified in leaf epicuticular waxes of Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil. (Aquifoliaceae). The total epicuticular leaf wax content was ca. 0.5% on average of dry leaf weight. Epicuticular caffeine and theobromine contents varied from 0.16 to 127.6 microg/mg and from 0 to 9.5 microg/mg of wax, respectively. For some selected samples, the intracellular methylxanthine concentration was also determined. A positive correlation was found between inner and epicuticular caffeine contents.

Palladium catalyzed cross coupling reactions of a vinyl triflate intermediate and various alkenyl stannanes afforded trisubstituted Z-olefins stereoselectively in high yields. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination of berberine in plasma, urine and bile samples is described. Plasma samples were pretreated by protein precipitation with acetonitrile and urine and bile samples were pretreated by organic solvent extraction using 5% 2-propanol in methylene chloride. Calendula officinalis and Sambucus nigra flowers were analysed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MECC). RP-HPLC was performed on C8 Aquapore RP 300 columns with eluents containing 2-propanol and tetrahydrofuran. MECC was carried out on a 72-cm fused-silica capillary using sodium dodecyl sulphate and sodium borate (pH 8.3) as the running buffer. The results obtained by these techniques are compared.

Thyroxine concentrations as low as 1 microM significantly stimulate compound III formation during aerobic oxidation of NADH by highly purified myeloperoxidase. This increased compound III formation is paralleled by an increased oxidation of NADH.
