Objective: This study aimed to reveal the underlying mechanism of Radix Bupleuri in the treatment of subacute thyroiditis (SAT). Methods: Radix Bupleuri, a key herb in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for over two millennia, is widely used to treat exterior syndromes, dissipate heat, harmonize liver Qi, and invigorate Yang-Qi. It is also commonly prescribed for SAT. To understand its molecular mechanisms, we collected active components and their targets from databases such as TCMSP, SwissADME, and Swiss TargetPrediction. Radix Bupleuri SAT genes were sourced from GeneCards, OMIM, and DisGeNE

AIM: The aim of this study is to characterize gut microbiome alterations in newly diagnosed subacute thyroiditis (SAT) patients, and identify potential microbial signatures associated with SAT and treatment response.
METHODS: Fecal samples collected from 20 newly diagnosed SAT patients and 20 healthy controls were analyzed using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing. Bioinformatics analysis was performed to assess alpha and beta diversity, taxonomic composition, and differential abundance of gut microbiota between the groups. Correlations between gut microbiome and clinical parameters were also i

Expanded dengue syndrome are unusual conditions, such as subacute thyroiditis (SAT). We present the case of a 38-year-old woman who had dengue without alarm signs for a month, along with cervical pain and increased cervical volume, palpitations, tremor and dysphagia. Hormonal evaluation, ultrasound and thyroid scintigraphy were consistent with SAT. She received corticoids for two months, with remission after four months. SAT is characterized by neck pain, fever and symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. It is associated with viral infections and it comprises a phase of thyrotoxicosis followed by hypothyr

PURPOSE: Case reports of subacute thyroiditis (SAT) following coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) have been reported. Because the relationship between SAT and human leucocyte antigen (HLA) alleles is known, we aimed to determine HLA alleles that may predispose a patient to coronavirus infection and/or post-COVID-19 SAT.
METHOD: This retrospective study was conducted in 51 patients with SAT and 190 healthy bone marrow donor volunteers. HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1, and -DQB1 were genotyped using next-generation sequencing. The study population was grouped into four groups according to SAT and COVID-19 h

Subacute thyroiditis (SAT) is a transient inflammation of the thyroid gland that often occurs following a viral infection. It is an infrequent cause of fever of unknown origin (FUO). We present a 46-year-old gentleman who presented with two weeks of fever and some non-specific left-sided neck pain. His initial investigations and microbiological workup were unremarkable. He did not report any hyperthyroid symptoms. A computed tomography of the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis showed a heterogeneous appearance of his thyroid gland. Thyroid function was then performed, and it showed primary hyper

INTRODUCTION: Subacute thyroiditis (SAT), also known as de Quatrain's thyroiditis or granulomatous thyroiditis, is an inflammatory disease of the thyroid. Most of the time, it manifests in the thirties to fifties and is more common in women. SAT can have either viral or post-viral origin. Some viruses, like influenza, COVID-19, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, hepatitis, coxsackievirus 16, and mumps virus, have been linked to SAT development. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected people's lives all around the world and has changed our attitude toward the treatment of many diseases. It has als

Viral infections emerge in the pathogenesis of subacute thyroiditis. Aside from this, subacute thyroiditis following vaccines utilizing inactivated viruses has been shown on rare occasions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several vaccines have been developed all over the world; mass and unprecedented vaccination has thus been initiated. However, it is known that cases such as subacute thyroiditis have been reported, albeit rarely, after administration of COVID-19 vaccines. In this case report, we present a 59-year-old patient with multiple myeloma developing subacute thyroiditis following BNT162

BACKGROUND: Subacute thyroiditis, an inflammatory disease, has been reported caused by vaccines in rare cases. In the context of the coronavirus disease 19 pandemic, various SARS-CoV-2 vaccines have been developed and may be potential triggers for subacute thyroiditis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of subacute thyroiditis 3 days after receiving the second dose of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (BBIBP-CorV). The patient did not report a previous history of thyroid disease, upper respiratory tract infection, or COVID-19. Physical examination, laboratory testing, ultrasonography, and radio

CONTEXT: Autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA syndrome) can be seen as a postvaccination phenomenon that occurs after exposure to adjuvants in vaccines that increase the immune responses. There are very limited data regarding ASIA syndrome following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines.
OBJECTIVES: This work aims to report cases of subacute thyroiditis related to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine.
METHODS: We describe the clinical, laboratory, and imaging features of 3 cases of subacute thyroiditis after inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac®)

Since the emergence of the coronavirus disease pandemic, several effective vaccines have been introduced. These vaccines work through several different immunogenic pathways to produce effective immunity. There have been a number of reports of patients developing subacute thyroiditis and thyroid dysfunction after receiving the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine. This paper presents a case of a female patient who developed subacute thyroiditis soon after receiving the adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccine. The patient presented with severe neck pain and her blood results demonstrated an initial thyro

A 66-year old man presented to our hospital due to gait disturbance. He was unable to stand or walk without assistance. Laboratory tests revealed macrocytic anemia and an extremely low serum vitamin B12 level. MRI showed high- intensity signals in the posterior and lateral column of the cervical and thoracic region of the spinal cord in T2 weighted image. Other significant laboratory results were an increased and/or positive anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody, anti-gastric parietal cell antibody and anti-intrinsic factor antibody. He was diagnosed with a combination of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, p

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease that can mimic a variety of symptoms leading to a delay in diagnosis and treatment. We report the case of 48 year-old woman, in whom initial presentation of MG with predominance of bulbar symptoms was mistaken for thyroid disease complications. Subsequently, correct diagnosis and optimal management resulted on significant improvement of her functional state. We discuss the importance of considering MG as one of the potential differential diagnoses among cases of new onset or recurrent unexplained bulbar symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Subacute thyroiditis is generally believed to be induced by viral infection, and little attention has been paid to anti-thyroid antibodies.
OBJECTIVES: Our study aimed to assess the prevalence of anti-thyroid antibodies in patients with subacute thyroiditis.
METHODS: Anti-thyroglobulin (TgAb) and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) were measured with 4 different immunoassay kits currently used in 40 patients in the early phase of subacute thyroiditis.
RESULTS: The proportion of samples positive for TgAb was 52.5 ± 13.7% (mean of 4 kits), which was significantly (p < 0.05)

Subacute thyroiditis (SAT) is a self-limiting inflammatory condition of the thyroid gland in which multinucleated giant cells constitute a key histological finding. SAT is generally a clinical diagnosis and consequently its histological features are rarely encountered by pathologist. Herein, we present a case that exemplifies the characteristic clinical and pathological features of this entity. In addition, we compare SAT to other thyroid disorders characterized by the presence of multinucleated giant cells.

Subacute thyroiditis is a common inflammatory disorder of the thyroid gland, possibly of viral etiology, that typically presents with neck pain, fever and tenderness on palpation of the thyroid gland. Graves' disease is an autoimmune thyroid disorder caused by stimulation of the thyroid gland by thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb). The development of Graves´ disease and subacute thyroiditis simultaneously is an uncommon condition and only a few cases have been reported. In this article we present a case of a 46-year old woman diagnosed with Graves´ disease who was started on thiamazole and

BACKGROUND: Platelet parameters have been studied in many diseases. This study explored the changes of mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet count (PLT) in subacute thyroiditis (SAT).
METHODS: We retrospectively studied 44 patients with SAT and 45 healthy individuals. Diagnosis was confirmed by pathologic examination of surgical specimens.
RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age and gender between the SAT group and the control group. We compared the above indexes between the two groups. WBC and PLT were significantly higher and MPV was obviously lower in the SAT group. PLT ha
