OBJECTIVE: To review the clinical profiles and therapies instituted for patients with acute amitraz intoxication.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
SETTING: Multidisciplinary intensive care unit (ICU) of a university hospital.
PATIENTS: Ten patients admitted to the ICU of Ege University Hospital.
RESULTS: Ten patients between 4 and 34 years of age were evaluated. The intoxication was the result of a suicide attempt in five cases and accidental in the rest. This report describes a series of four equine mast cell tumours (MCTs) with atypical morphological features. The tumours were 1-2 cm in diameter and mostly localized to the eyes (one eyelid, two conjunctiva). Patch testing was performed on 235 patients with a specialized collection of plastic and glue components. Thirteen percent had a positive response to at least one of the allergens. Seventy-four percent of the responses were relevant to either the present or a past problem, and 64% were occupationally related. The substances that yielded the greater percentage of positive responses were ethylenediamine, triethylenetetramine, diethylenetriamine, diaminodiphenylmethane, melamine formaldehyde resin, phenol formaldehyde resin, cresylglycidylether, phenylglycidylether, and N, N-dimethyl-p-toluidine.

Chronic basophilic leukemia (CBL) is an extremely rare type of leukemia. A literature review revealed six cases reported as primary CBL and five patients with secondary CBL.
