[En face' optical coherence tomography guided focal navigated laser photocoagulation].

UNLABELLED: Aim - to prove the feasibility of focal navigated laser photocoagulation (LP) for central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) that relies only on the data provided by optical coherence tomography (OCT) without considering fluorescein angiography (FA). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two patients with CSC were treated with focal navigated LP (NAVILAS laser system) basing on macular OCT findings (RTVue 100). Before the procedure, FA was not performed. RESULTS: In both cases the leaking point was recognized by a solitary focal detachment of the pigment epithelium in 'en face' OCT scans. OCT images

Safety of optical coherence tomography in pediatric heart transplant patients.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) is a crucial problem after heart transplantation, in adults as well as in children. CAV is the main risk factor for a reduced long-term graft survival. The early diagnosis and treatment of CAV is essential for a successful long-term preservation of the donor heart. However, asymptomatic progression of CAV and concentric hyperplasia of the coronary arteries may complicate the early diagnosis by conventional measures. Intravascular imaging, such as intravascular ultrasound and optical coherence tomography (OCT), enables the diagnosis of early stag

[Use of optical coherence tomography based lacrimal meniscometry in dacryology].

UNLABELLED: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) based lacrimal meniscometry is currently the most accurate method used to determine dimensions of tear meniscus. According to related literature, the latter gets reliably reduced after treatment of nasolacrimal duct obstructions. However, the relationship between morphometric parameters of tear meniscus and the intensity of epiphora has not been established. Even an adequate study parameter has not been yet identified. AIM: To investigate the significance of OCT based lacrimal meniscometry in determining the extent of insufficiency of lacrimal dr

Retinal Imaging of Infants on Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography.

Spectral domain coherence tomography (SD OCT) has become an important tool in the management of pediatric retinal diseases. It is a noncontact imaging device that provides detailed assessment of the microanatomy and pathology of the infant retina with a short acquisition time allowing office examination without the requirement of anesthesia. Our understanding of the development and maturation of the infant fovea has been enhanced by SD OCT allowing an in vivo assessment that correlates with histopathology. This has helped us understand the critical correlation of foveal development with visual

Ethnic differences in trabecular meshwork height by optical coherence tomography.

IMPORTANCE: Differences in ocular anatomy may contribute to ethnic differences in glaucoma risk. Because the trabecular meshwork (TM) plays an important role in aqueous outflow, its anatomy in relation to at-risk populations may provide insight into a potential contributor to elevated intraocular pressure and thus to probability of glaucoma development. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether differences exist in TM height between ethnic groups. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This prospective study took place from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2013. Adult patients who self-reported as being

Optical Coherence Tomography in an Infant with Walker-Warburg Syndrome.

PURPOSE: Walker-Warburg syndrome (WWS) is a type of congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD) characterised by severe brain malformation, lissencephaly, and congenital eye abnormalities. Despite the coexistence of various eye abnormalities, results from optical coherence tomography (OCT) in WWS have not previously been reported. We herein report specific OCT findings in an infant with WWS. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The patient was a 14-day-old boy delivered by caesarean section at 38 weeks and 4 days of gestation and with a birth weight of 2,543 g. A cranial MRI showed lissencephaly, hydrocephalus, an

Three-dimensional spectral domain optical coherence tomography in vitreomacular traction.

Spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) is a non-invasive tool providing unprecedented imaging and analysis of vitreomacular interface. Two cases of vitreomacular traction were analysed by advanced three-dimensional (3D) SD-OCT imaging. En-face OCT permitted localisation of the exact point of attachment of vitreous to retina. A comprehensive view of the surface topography and anatomical configuration of vitreomacular affection was revealed by 3D imaging with segmentation technique. Macular change analysis programme revealed progression to full-thickness macular hole in the second

Electrooculography and optical coherence tomography reveal late-onset Best disease.

PURPOSE: Best vitelliform macular dystrophy, also known as Best disease, is a macular dystrophy characterized by bilateral yellowish egg yolk-like lesion(s) present within the maculae. It is a slowly progressive disease that usually presents at childhood. Best vitelliform macular dystrophy frequently proceeds through stages, beginning with a classic presentation described as vitelliform. A similar condition, known as adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy, has been described among adult patients. Although the two maculopathies may look similar, they are considered two separate entities

In vivo imaging of mouse cochlea by optical coherence tomography.

HYPOTHESIS: Cochlear pathology can be evaluated in living animals using optical coherence tomography (OCT). BACKGROUND: The current imaging methods available for the detailed analysis of cochlear pathology in a clinical setting provide only limited information. Thus, a cochlear imaging modality with high definition is needed for improving the diagnosis of cochlear pathology. OCT has been used in other fields for obtaining high-resolution subsurface images, and its use could potentially be extended to the analysis of cochlear pathogenesis. METHODS: Slc26a4(-/-) mice, which generate endolympha

Imaging pancreatobiliary ductal system with optical coherence tomography: A review.

An accurate, noninvasive and cost-effective method of in situ tissue evaluation during endoscopy would be highly advantageous for the detection of dysplasia or early cancer and for identifying different disease stages. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive, high-resolution (1-10 μm) emerging optical imaging method with potential for identifying microscopic subsurface features in the pancreatic and biliary ductal system. Tissue microstructure of pancreaticobiliary ductal system has been successfully imaged by inserting an OCT probe through a standard endoscope operative channel. H

Thrombosis and morphology of plaque rupture using optical coherence tomography.

BACKGROUND: Thrombosis following plaque rupture is the main cause of acute coronary syndrome, but not all plaque ruptures lead to thrombosis. There are limited in vivo data on the relationship between the morphology of ruptured plaque and thrombosis. METHODS: We used optical coherence tomography (OCT) to investigate the morphology of plaque rupture and its relation to coronary artery thrombosis in patients with coronary heart disease. Forty-two patients with coronary artery plaque rupture detected by OCT were divided into two groups (with or without thrombus) and the morphological characteris

Optical coherence tomography for evaluation of coronary stents in vivo.

Coronary optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a light-based imaging modality that emits light in the near-infrared range. Compared with intravascular ultrasound, OCT has an extraordinarily high resolution (nearly tenfold higher), with an axial resolution in the range of 12-15 µm and a lateral resolution of 20-40 µm. The main drawback of OCT is its relatively low penetration power, especially into lipid-rich atherosclerotic tissue. Second-generation OCT systems, known as frequency domain OCT, are now widely available in many catheter laboratories. The hallmark of OCT is its outstanding ability

Left main dissection conservatively managed with optical coherence tomography guidance.

Left main dissection (LMD) is a rare but feared complication of cardiac catheterization. It is usually managed by bailout stent implantation or coronary artery bypass surgery. We describe a case of iatrogenic, retrograde LMD during percutaneous coronary intervention. After covering the retrograde entry of the dissection in the ostial left anterior descending artery (LAD), optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed, that there was no antegrade entry in the left main and that the minimal true lumen area in the left main was 7.2 mm(2) . It was therefore decided to treat the LMD conservatively and
