Suboccipital Lateral Approach for Resection of Cerebellopontine Angle Meningioma: Operative Video and Technical Nuances.

We present the case of a 34-year-old woman, who presented to our department with a 4 months history of dizziness, hearing loss, and tinnitus on the right side. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan demonstrated a large extra-axial lesion, suggestive of a meningioma, with dural attachments to the petrosal bone surface and tentorium, closely related with the trigeminal, abducens, facial, vestibulocochlear, and lower cranial nerves in the right side. Treatment options were discussed with the patient, and surgical resection was selected to remove the lesion, and decompress the cranial nerves and b

The vertebral venous plexuses: the internal veins are muscular and external veins have valves.

The internal and external vertebral venous plexuses (VVP) extend the length of the vertebral column. Authoritative sources state that these veins are devoid of valves, permitting bidirectional blood flow and facilitating the hematogenous spread of malignant tumors that have venous connections with these plexuses. The aim of this investigation was to identify morphologic features that might influence blood flow in the VVP. The VVP of 12 adult cadavers (seven female, mean age 79.5 years) were examined by macro- and micro-dissection and representative veins removed for histology and immunohistoch

Helmetlike skull deformity with a large arachnoid cyst.

BACKGROUND: It is not difficult to find localized skull ballooning or macrocrania in patients with intracranial arachnoid cysts. However, there have been no previous reports regarding large localized skull protuberant deformities resembling a war helmet. The authors report with a review of literature a case of an adult with helmetlike skull deformity resulting from a large supratentorial arachnoid cyst. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 35-year-old man presented with a large head deformity since his early childhood that had been the result of gradual progression from infantile macrocrania. He also had ment

[Dural arteriovenous malformation of the anterior fossa with subarachnoid hemorrhage].

Idiopathic dural arteriovenous malformation which occurs in the posterior fossa uses predominantly transverse and sigmoid sinuses. Cavernous sinus comes next and others are rather rare. However, we have recently experienced such a rare case which was operated on and cured completely. The malformation was fed through the anterior ethmoid artery and drained to the cortical vein. The case was a 36-year-old male and admitted in our clinic for having headache and nausea as the chief complaints. He was diagnosed subarachnoid hemorrhage due to the following findings: CT scans showed a high density zo

Clinical and surgical implications of emissary venous anatomy.

PURPOSE: To review the anatomy and clinical significance of the cranial emissary veins (CEVs) with an emphasis on the posterior fossa pathways, their relevance to neuroradiologic interpretation, and implications for surgical planning. METHODS: A narrative, imaging-focused review was performed while discussing anatomic descriptions and clinically relevant patterns of CEV appearance on cross-sectional imaging. RESULTS: CEVs are valveless veins that pass through cranial apertures and connect the intracranial venous sinuses and extracranial veins. CEVs play a crucial role in normal cerebral venous

Otogenic Sigmoid Sinus Thrombosis in a 34-Year-Old Woman: A Rare Intracranial Complication.

Otogenic sigmoid sinus thrombosis (SST) is a rare but potentially life-threatening intracranial complication of otitis media, particularly uncommon in adults in the antibiotic era. Diagnosis may be delayed due to nonspecific early clinical features, with rapid deterioration secondary to raised intracranial pressure and impaired venous drainage. We report the case of a 34-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with a four-day history of progressive right-sided otalgia, headache, and vomiting. She initially presented alert with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 15/15 but rapi

Meningococcal Meningitis Complicated by Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis Presenting as Pseudo-Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in a Toddler: A Case Report.

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare and potentially devastating complication of bacterial meningitis. While a small number of adult cases have been reported, meningococcal-associated CVST in children is exceptionally rare. We report a previously healthy 20-month-old boy who presented with fever, vomiting, irritability, and a left convergent squint. Initial non-contrast computed tomography of the brain demonstrated bilateral tentorial hyperdensities consistent with the pseudo-subarachnoid hemorrhage sign, an imaging pitfall in which venous engorgement and cerebral edema mimic true

Computed Tomography Evaluation of Frontal Sinus Volume in Migraine Patients.

This study aimed to assess the frontal sinus volume (FSV) on computed tomography (CT) scans in migraine patients. Cranial and paranasal CT images from 75 migraine patients (mean age: 39.14±13.63 y) and 23 control cases (mean age: 38.78±13.32 y) were analyzed retrospectively. Three-dimensionally reconstructed images of frontal sinuses were generated. Total FSV, anterolateral, and transverse diameters of the head were measured. The presence/absence and nature of supraorbital foramen and notches were evaluated. The total FSV was 8.02±5.97 cm 3 in the migraine group and 8.38±4.83 cm 3 in the contr

Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis following COVID-19 Vaccination: Analysis of 552 Worldwide Cases.

To date, billions of vaccine doses have been administered to restrain the current COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. Rare side effects, including intravascular blood clots, were reported in the general population after vaccination. Among these, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) has been considered the most serious one. To shed further light on such an event, we conducted a literature search for case descriptions of CVST in vaccinated people. Findings were analyzed with emphasis on demographic characteristics, type of vaccine, site of thrombosis, clinical and histopathological findings. From 25

Imaging findings in a patient with suspected vaccine induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia.

Covid-19 vaccine was developed in response to the SARS Cov2 pandemic. Despite the effectiveness of the vaccine, various complications have been reported after vaccination. We present the case of a 55-year-old patient with post-vaccination complication. The patient was vaccinated with ChAdOx1 nCov-19 Vaccine and 2 weeks later presented with headache, confusion and abdominal pain for 1 week duration. Clinical examination demonstrated reduced Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), reduced muscle power bilaterally and dysphasia. Blood test showed thrombocytopenia, high titres of D-Dimer and mildly raised INR.
