Robotic-integrated intraoperative ultrasound for excision of accessory cavitated uterine malformation (ACUM): an innovative surgical technique.

BACKGROUND: Accessory cavitated uterine mass (ACUM) is a rare Mullerian anomaly that predominantly affects young women, presenting with refractory dysmenorrhea. Despite 3D ultrasound and MRI being the gold standard for diagnosis, diagnostic delays and accuracy limitations continue to hinder timely management. The deep intra-myometrial location of this anomaly poses significant surgical challenges in achieving complete excision while preserving healthy myometrium. CASE PRESENTATION: A 22-year-old nulliparous woman presented with incapacitating cyclical pelvic pain and was diagnosed with ACUM.

In-Office Management of Thyroid Nodules.

Advancements in managing thyroid nodules are discussed, emphasizing in-office procedures as alternatives to traditional surgery. Thyroid nodules are prevalent, often benign, but some require further evaluation owing to malignancy concerns. Ultrasonography is the preferred method for evaluation, offering insights without radiation exposure. Nonsurgical interventions provide effective management options. Radiofrequency ablation reduces nodule size and symptoms with minimal complications and is performed in an outpatient setting, offering a cost-effective, quick recovery alternative to surgery. P

Steroid Injection in the Treatment of Foreign Body-Associated Chronic Flexor Tenosynovitis: Never Without Ultrasound.

BACKGROUND: Although cases of tenosynovitis associated with foreign bodies are documented in the literature, there is no reported instance of the treatment of foreign body-associated tenosynovitis with ultrasound (US)-guided steroid injection. The use of corticosteroid injection under US guidance for flexor tenosynovitis associated with foreign bodies is a noteworthy subject. CASE REPORT: In this case report, we present the contribution of US-guided targeted steroid injection to the treatment of flexor tenosynovitis of the third finger of the left hand associated with a foreign body. A practical booklet for ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections.

In the last 15 years, the use of ultrasound to guide botulinum neurotoxin type A injections has been advocated by many authors, with growing evidence showing the benefits of using ultrasound guidance to improve the efficacy of injections. Patients with spasticity may show severely altered postures, atrophy and fibrotic modifications of target muscles, leading to significant challenges in recognising and differentiating between the muscles to be injected or not. At present time, there are no available books with images that clarify how to identify and inject muscles in patients showing these pr

Hybrid KLT-LSTM Tracking for Robust Organ Motion Monitoring in 2D Ultrasound-Guided End-Organ Therapies.

OBJECTIVE: Recent research highlights the potential of ultrasound (US) stimulation as a noninvasive tool for modulating neural and cellular signaling in the spleen and liver to treat inflammatory diseases and diabetes. However, challenges like nerve activation failures, off-target stimulation, and organ motion during respiration can affect treatment efficacy. This study introduces a novel tracking framework for accurate liver and spleen motion tracking using US imaging to overcome these challenges. METHODS: The tracking framework integrates an enhanced Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (EKLT) tracker with

Comparison between in-plane and out-of-plane techniques for ultrasound guided cannulation of the left brachiocephalic vein in pediatric population: A randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Brachiocephalic vein is a novel site for central venous cannulation in infants. It becomes useful in patients where the internal jugular vein lumen is small (e.g., volume deficient patient), patients with a history of multiple cannulations, and in whom subclavian puncture is contraindicated. METHODS: In this randomized double-blinded study, 100 patients, aged between 0 and 1 year scheduled for elective central venous cannulation were recruited. The patients were allocated into two groups (50 patients in each). Group I patients had ultrasound (US) guided cannulation of the

Effects of ultrasound-guided platelet rich plasma injection in patients with piriformis syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Piriformis syndrome (PS) is the common entrapment neuropathy causing buttock pain. Patients are conventionally treated with lifestyle modification, exercise, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroid or botulinum toxin injections. However, some patients may not respond to these conventional treatment methods. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection has been shown to be beneficial in various muscular injuries, but its effects have not yet been investigated in PS. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore the effect of PRP on pain and functional status in patients wit

Therapeutic intervention for iatrogenic thoracolumbar pseudomeningocele using ultrasound-guided aspiration and ultrasound-assisted epidural blood patch - A case report.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage causing a pseudomeningocele is a well-recognized complication after spine surgery. It presents as a recurrence of low-back pain, radiculopathy, subcutaneous swelling, symptoms of intracranial hypotension, and delayed myelopathy. Definitive surgical repair is needed if not resolved spontaneously or with minimally invasive measures like lumbar subarachnoid drainage and an epidural blood patch (EBP). We report a case of iatrogenic thoracic pseudomeningocele, successfully treated with dual therapeutic intervention (CSF aspiration and EBP) using an ultrasound. This

Efficacy and Safety of Endoanal Ultrasound-Guided Botulinum Toxin in Chronic Anal Fissure.

We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoanal ultrasound (EAUS)-guided botulinum toxin (BT) in the treatment of chronic anal fissure (CAF). All patients were classified into 2 groups: conventional and EAUS groups. In total, 90 units of BT were injected into the internal anal sphincter at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions in the EAUS group. An injection was performed into the intersphincteric space at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions in the conventional group. Adverse effects and efficacy were analyzed. There were 44 patients: 26 in the conventional group and 18 in the EAUS group. P

Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Nerve Stimulation of Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar Spinal Nerves for Dermatomal Pain: A Case Series.

OBJECTIVES: With the development of percutaneously inserted devices, peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) has been gaining attention within chronic pain literature as a less invasive neurostimulation alternative to spinal column and dorsal root ganglion stimulation. A majority of current PNS literature focuses on targeting individual distal nerves to treat individual peripheral mononeuropathies, limiting its applications. This article discusses our experience treating dermatomal pain with neurostimulation without needing to access the epidural space by targeting the proximal spinal nerve with pe

Ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures in children.

Ultrasound is an excellent tool to evaluate many pediatric musculoskeletal conditions. It may be used for both diagnosis and for guidance for therapeutic procedures. With US, the radiologist can readily evaluate the contralateral side for comparison. No sedation is typically required and ionizing radiation is avoided. Real-time information is obtained with US and the portability of US allows for the performance of bedside interventions in children who cannot be transported or are clinically unstable. Limitations of US compared with MRI and CT include limited field of view, inability to evaluat

A feasibility study of an algorithm that identifies ascites on image-guided paracentesis.

Prompt management of ascites via image-guided paracentesis can provide therapy for patients with ascites and identify potentially fatal infections. However, not all medical facilities have trained providers readily available. The goal of this study was to develop an algorithm that can reliably identify and localize ascites on abdominal ultrasound images autonomously. The proposed algorithm was developed via OpenCV image processing library on Python software and analyzed 16 random abdominal ultrasound images with multiple views to validate the software. The algorithm identified 100% of targeted

Ultrasound in the study of soft tissue infections.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a safe and easily accessible imaging technique that allows the study of suspected infections of the musculoskeletal system. Although no finding is specific to these types of processes, certain synovial characteristics may suggest an infectious process rather than a non-infectious inflammatory condition. The role of ultrasound in this group of diseases is also to facilitate the extraction of synovial fluid for microbiological study. Ultrasound-guided synovial tissue biopsy is a minimally invasive, feasible, safe, and well-tolerated procedure that provides high-qual

Thoracic ultrasound in guiding management of respiratory disease.

INTRODUCTION: The use of ultrasound in respiratory disease has evolved substantially over the past two decades. From a test done to confirm the safe site of pleural fluid drainage, thoracic ultrasound has become a point-of-care test that guides the management of patients on respiratory wards, in clinics and endoscopy. AREAS COVERED: This review overviews the process of ultrasound examination in the chest. It then delves into specific disease areas (pleural disease, lung disease, diaphragm disease, and invasive procedures) to highlight how thoracic ultrasound is being used to refine management

Ultrasound-guided transuterine coil embolization of a Vein of Galen malformation.

Vein of Galen malformations (VOGMs) are rare and complex congenital vascular anomalies that can lead to severe morbidity and mortality. Management predominantly focuses on postnatal endovascular interventions. However, these may not be feasible for fetuses with hemodynamic instability and high-output cardiac failure and may fail to prevent irreversible brain damage induced by prolonged compression by the venous varix, hemodynamic alterations and resultant potential ischemic injury. In utero endovascular embolization in high-risk VOGM fetuses may decrease mortality, prevent cardiac decompensati
