PURPOSE: Mechanical ocular injury involving the uvea poses significant surgical challenges and risks of irreversible visual impairment. Cell immunity was followed in patients with malignant melanoma of the uveal tissue with the aid of LAI (leukocyte adherence inhibition assay). The LAI test proved positive in 59 out of 65 patients with histological evidence of malignancy of the melanoma (90.7%). The test was repeated three to six months following excision of the tumor from the eye in 48 patients and in 19 of them (39.6%) it was found to be negative. The iris is a fine structure that controls the amount of light that enters the eye. The ciliary body controls the shape of the lens and produces aqueous humor. The retinal pigment epithelium and choroid (RPE/choroid) are essential in supporting the retina and absorbing light energy that enters the eye. We compared 2 techniques of inducing cataract in enucleated goat eyes as a training model for phacoemulsification. The cataract was induced using 0.2 to 0.5 mL of formalin 20%. In 10 eyes, formalin was injected through a clear corneal side port into the nucleus after capsulorhexis and in 10 eyes, through the pars plana before capsulorhexis. The pars plana technique achieved a cataract of different grades of nuclear hardness with the added advantage of anterior capsule elasticity closely simulating that of senile cataract but without compromising corneal clarity.

The architecture of the vasculature of the human anterior eye segment was studied by scanning electron microscopy of vascular resin casts. Drug delivery to the eyes is quite inefficient regardless if the drugs are administered topically or intravenously. It is known that less than 1% of topically instilled drug can be absorbed into the eyes while even less of intravenously injected drugs reach the eyes. The occurrence of bone marrow metastases (BMM) in melanoma patients is often underestimated, with only 7% detected during in-vivo staging procedures but rising to 45% in autopsy cases. This systematic review aims to shed light on the clinical and laboratory features of BMM in melanoma by analyzing 73 studies selected from 2 482 initially retrieved from PubMed, Embase , and Cochrane CENTRAL databases.
