Radiation recall reactions are uncommon delayed tissue reactions seen in previously irradiated sites following treatment with cytotoxic agents. We evaluated a 64-year-old who developed two episodes of acute vulvitis and vaginal necrosis after receiving idarubicin therapy for acute myelogenous leukemia. Three years earlier she had undergone successful radiotherapeutic treatment of a stage I squamous cell carcinoma of the vagina. Her symptoms and examination findings resolved with local therapy and discontinuation of idarubicin. Recall reactions have been associated with the antitumor antibiotic

A phase I trial was conducted of the vitamin A derivative beta-all-trans-retinoic acid (vitamin A acid; TRA), delivered via a collagen sponge and cervical cap for mild or moderate intraepithelial cervical neoplasia. On the basis of known skin and mucosal membrane toxicity, a concentration of 0.05% TRA in a cream-based vehicle was selected as the starting dose and was escalated later with the use of a modified Fibonacchi scale. The delivery device and the TRA were changed daily for 4 days, and side effects were assessed on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 30 by clinical and colposcopic examination. Vagi

BACKGROUND: Vaginal metastasis should be kept in mind when evaluating the staging tests of all cancers, especially endometrial cancer.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present four patients with vaginal recurrence who recently applied to our clinic. Three cases were of endometrial cancer and one case of rectal cancer. All patients presented with vaginal bleeding.
CONCLUSION: Standard treatment for vaginal metastasis has not yet been established. Therapeutic options for vaginal metastasis-separately or in combination-are surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy.

A gynaecological examination was performed because of vaginal bleeding in a 67-year-old woman who was admitted for dyspnoea and a painful cough. A tumour was detected in the vaginal wall that turned out to be a metastasis of a locally extensive and metastasised Grawitz tumour. In a 76-year-old woman who presented with vaginal bleeding, speculum examination revealed a polyp that protruded from the cervix. A non-Hodgkin lymphoma was demonstrated histopathologically. In both patients, the cervical smear showed Pap-I. Both patients were given palliative treatment. According to the guidelines, the

INTRODUCTION: Ependymomas are glial neoplasms that arise at or close to the inner ependymal surface of the ventricular system. They are most frequently located intraventricularly, but they may also occur in the spinal cord or, very seldom, at extraneural sites. Here we report a case of an ectopic ependymoma, arising in the pelvic cavity.
CASE REPORT: A 35 year-old female patient was diagnosed with a suspect tumor mass in the rectovaginal space, infiltrating the perirectal adipose tissue and the vagina. Three years later, liver and peritoneal metastases of the same tumor were diagnosed. Two ye

Prevention and early detection remain essential to decreasing cancer mortality. Screening DNA in Pap smears has the potential to increase the rate of early detection of endometrial and ovarian cancers. In this issue of Science Translational Medicine, Kinde and colleagues use advanced sequencing technology to evaluate DNA to screen for gynecologic malignancies.

OBJECTIVE: We present a rare case of a very rapidly growing stage IV ovarian endometrioid adenocarcinoma involving the uterine cervix and vagina without lymph node involvement.
CASE REPORT: A 43-year-old woman visited the hospital with complaints of lower abdominal discomfort and vaginal bleeding over the previous 3 months. Serum levels of tumor marker CA 125 and SCC antigen (TA-4) were normal. On magnetic resonance imaging, a 7.9×9.7cm heterogeneous mass with intermediate signal intensity was observed in the posterior low body of the uterus. Two months ago, a computed tomography scan reveale

We present here the case report of a postmenopausal woman who complained of recurrent pus-like vaginal discharge and perianal pain 1 year after Le Fort colpocleisis, which was subsequently identified as a primary invasive carcinoma of the vagina. Biopsy confirmed a squamous cell carcinoma in the vagina, and the disease was classified as stage III according to FIGO staging. The patient received pelvic radiotherapy. This case emphasizes that differential diagnosis of recurrent vaginal discharge that presents remote from obliterative procedure for pelvic organ prolapse should consider not only py

A 67-year-old female who had undergone hysterectomy and colpectomy due to vaginal premalignant melanosis presented with sacralgia after 2-year discontinuation of follow-up. Mucosal pigmentation was observed around the external urethral orifice, strongly implying recurrence of premalignant melanosis. Magnetic resonance imaging for abdominal screening revealed a cystic mass adjacent to the urinary bladder with heterogeneous internal signal measuring 5 cm in diameter, but no definitive diagnosis could be made. She underwent urethrectomy and cystostomy, with simultaneous extirpation of the intrape

Cervicovaginitis emphysematous is a rare self-limiting disease in which multiple gas-filled cysts are present in the submucosa of the upper vagina and ectocervix. We report a case in a 40 year-old trader who presented with clinical features suggestive of carcinoma of the cervix. It is hoped that this case report will heighten the awareness of clinicians and pathologists in the recognition of this unusual condition.

The vast majority of prepubertal gynecologic problems fall into three categories. The most serious category includes those "things that bleed": sarcoma botryoides, trauma (including sexual abuse), vaginal foreign objects, condylomata, urethral prolapse, and single organism vaginitis. Very rarely, the clinician will see precocious menarche, metastatic Crohn's disease, vascular vulvar lesions, and factitious cases. The next category contains entities that have an abnormal appearance: ambiguous genitalia, periurethral cysts of the newborn, hymenal variants, and agglutination of the labia and vulv

For some gynecologic malignancies, there are disagreements between the most recent WHO and TNM classifications and the recommendations of the International Collaboration of Cancer Reporting. These discrepancies are addressed and discussed in this paper. The WHO definition for primary vaginal cancer does not match the TNM definition. The paper also discusses and provides TNM classifications for rare gynecologic tumors like primary malignant vulvar melanomas, sarcomas of the vulva, perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PECom) of the uterus, undifferentiated uterine sarcomas, and extra-intestinal

Sarcomas represent only 2%-3% of all female genital tract malignancies. Only 10% occur outside the uterus (vulva, vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterine ligaments). The morphology of these tumors is sometimes confusing. Sarcomas are often not diagnosed before they reach a very advanced stage. A large percentage of sarcomas occur in very young women. Treatment is not satisfactory and the prognosis has remained bad despite the use of chemotherapy for some tumors (e.g. embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma). Improvements in diagnosis and therapy require pooling of experience and the establishment of an a

Chlamydia trachomatis cervical infection was observed in a 19-year-old woman with genital condylomata acuminata. To isolate C.trachomatis, cycloheximide-treated McCoy cells and a culture-independent monoclonal antibody were used. In addition, a single-antigen immunofluorescence test was made to determine the chlamydia antibody titer. Condylomata acuminata are induced by human papillomaviruses (HPV), predominantly types 6 and 11. This case shows that simultaneous genital infection of C.trachomatis and HPV requires special attention.

100 women, routinely and regularly examined in a venereal disease clinic, have been investigated using Papanicolaou smears of the uterine cervix for. 1. Papanicolaou group, 2. trichomonas infection, 3. assessment of vaginal microbiology. A group III was determined in 11, a group IV/V in 2 women. Trichomonas vaginalis was present in 60% of the cases. Only 9% of the smears showed normal Döderlein bacteria; 91% contained mixed bacteria. The findings are compared with a control group and are discussed in the light of epidemiologic studies indicating the close rôle of certain factors in the sexual
