Unhappiness with the Fetal Gender is associated with Depression in Adult Pregnant Women Attending Prenatal Care in a Public Hospital in Durango, Mexico.

Depression during pregnancy has been scantily studied in Mexican women. We aimed to determine the prevalence and correlates of depression in adult pregnant women attending a public hospital in the northern Mexican city of Durango, Mexico. Through a cross-sectional study design, we assessed depression in 270 adult pregnant women attended for prenatal care in a public hospital using a validated Mexican version of the Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale in pregnancy and further confirmation by a psychiatric evaluation using the DSM-IV criteria for depression. Prevalence association with socio-dem

Prenatal choline supplementation mitigates behavioral alterations associated with prenatal alcohol exposure in rats.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal alcohol exposure can alter physical and behavioral development, leading to a range of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. Despite warning labels, pregnant women continue to drink alcohol, creating a need to identify effective interventions to reduce the severity of alcohol's teratogenic effects. Choline is an essential nutrient that influences brain and behavioral development. Recent studies indicate that choline supplementation can reduce the teratogenic effects of developmental alcohol exposure. The present study examined whether choline supplementation during prenatal eth

Mechanisms of attachment of Mycoplasma arthritidis to host cells in vitro.

Although other investigators have reported that Mycoplasma arthritidis failed to attach to several types of mammalian cells in vitro, we showed that it attached well to rat synovial fibroblasts, lung cells, and skin cells but not to kidney cells, suggesting that receptor sites are unequally expressed or distributed among different rat tissues. M. arthritidis also attached poorly to canine kidney and to baby hamster kidney cells, although it did attach to human fetal lung and fetal amnion cells. Four M. arthritidis strains, two virulent and two avirulent, all attached equally well to rat lung c

LHX2 in germ cells control tubular organization in the developing mouse testis.

In the gonads of mammalian XY embryos, the organization of cords is the hallmark of testis development. This organization is thought to be controlled by interactions of the Sertoli cells, endothelial and interstitial cells with little or no role of germ cells. Challenging this notion, herein we show that the germ cells play an active role in the organization of the testicular tubules. We observed that the LIM-homeobox gene, Lhx2 is expressed in the germ cells of the developing testis between E12.5-E15.5. In Lhx2 knockout-fetal testis there was altered expression of several genes not just in ge

Outcome of induction and associated factors among induced labours in public Hospitals of Harari Regional State, Eastern Ethiopia: A two years' retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Induction of labor (IOL) is an essential intervention to reduce adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. It is also improved pregnancy outcomes, especially in resource-limited countries, where maternal and perinatal mortality is unacceptably high. However, there is a scarcity of evidence regarding the outcome of induction of labor and its predictors in low-income countries like Sub-Saharan Africa. Therefore, this study was aimed at assessing the outcome of induction of labor and associated factors among mothers who underwent labor induction in public Hospitals of Harari Regional Sta

Race and ethnicity are among the predisposing factors for fetal malpresentation at term.

OBJECTIVE: Fetal malpresentation complicates approximately 3% to 4% of all term births. It requires special considerations for delivery and exposes the mother and neonate to obstetrical interventions and potential adverse outcomes, such as umbilical cord prolapse, head entrapment and birth trauma, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, cesarean delivery, and cesarean delivery-related complications. We set out to explore the maternal and fetal factors associated with noncephalic malpresentation at term, with specific interest on the impact of maternal race and ethnicity on fetal malpresentation. Sex-specific associations between prenatal exposure to environmental pollutants and birth outcomes: a meconium biomonitoring study.

Prenatal exposure to environmental pollutants, particularly heavy metals and pesticides, is a major public health concern because of its potential association with fetal growth and development. These toxicants can cross the placental barrier and accumulate in fetal tissues. Meconium, the first neonatal feces, is a well-established biomarker of cumulative fetal exposure during late pregnancy. However, evidence regarding sex-specific associations between prenatal pollutant exposure and neonatal outcomes remains limited, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. A cross-sectional study wa

Congenital Anatomical Variations of the Posterior Cord of the Brachial Plexus in Human Fetuses: Branching Patterns and Surgical Implications.

BACKGROUND: The posterior cord of the brachial plexus, formed by the posterior divisions of the upper, middle, and lower trunks (C5-T1), gives rise to the upper subscapular, thoracodorsal, lower subscapular, and axillary nerves and continues as the radial nerve. Variations in its formation and branching are clinically important for regional anesthesia (infraclavicular and axillary blocks), axillary surgery, and nerve-transfer procedures in brachial plexus palsy. Fetal dissection can reveal congenital patterns before postnatal or post-mortem distortion. OBJECTIVE: The single combined objective

Intrapartum Maternal Cardiac Arrest: A Simulation Case for Multidisciplinary Providers.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiac arrest in pregnancy is rare. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support courses rarely address interventions specific to obstetric patients, and knowledge gaps are frequent among providers. The Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology and American Heart Association have published guidelines regarding management of cardiac arrest in pregnancy, and interdisciplinary simulation training has been advocated to reinforce key management points for this clinical scenario. METHODS: In situ multidisciplinary simulation training was implemented for anesthesia and maternal fetal
