[Comparison of clinical status and long-term outcome of patients with angina pectoris and normal coronary vessels in coronary angiography or insignificantly narrowed coronary arteries].

UNLABELLED: Among patients investigated with coronary angiography because of effort chest pains, 8-30% are found to have insignificantly narrowed coronary arteries. In this group there are patients with angiographically normal coronary arteries and patients with hemodynamically insignificant atherosclerotic plaques. The aim of this study was to compare clinical status and long-term outcome of patients with effort angina whose epicardial coronary arteries were angiographically normal (Group 1) and patients with luminal diameter stenoses of maximum 30% (Group 2). Lifetime earnings patterns, the distribution of future Social Security benefits, and the impact of pension reform.

In order to assess the effect of Social Security reform on current and future workers, it is essential to accurately characterize the initial situations of representative workers affected by reform. For the purpose of analyzing typical reforms, the most important characteristic of a worker is the level and pattern of his or her preretirement earnings. Under the current system, pensions are determined largely by the level of the workers' earnings averaged over their work life. However, several reform proposals would create individual retirement accounts for which the pension would depend on the…

The Orphaned Innovation: Cost, Structural Barriers, and Global System Shifts Prompting Reimbursement Reform in Endoscopic Spine Surgery-Insights From 1.2 Million Cases.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic spine surgery (ESS) is increasingly recognized for its clinical efficacy and patient-centered advantages, including reduced morbidity and faster recovery. However, despite growing global interest, its adoption remains highly variable, shaped more by systemic, economic, and institutional forces than by technical limitations. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate global adoption barriers to ESS using psychometrically validated tools and identify region-specific structural disparities through Rasch analysis and differential item functioning (DIF). METHODS: A cross-sectional global surve

The eye amputated - consequences of eye amputation with emphasis on clinical aspects, phantom eye syndrome and quality of life.

UNLABELLED: In this thesis the term eye amputation (EA) covers the removing of an eye by: evisceration, enucleation and exenteration. Amputation of an eye is most frequently the end-stage in a complicated disease, or the primary treatment in trauma and neoplasm. In 2010 the literature is extensive due to knowledge about types of surgery, implants and surgical technique. However, not much is known about the time past surgery. THE PURPOSE OF THE PHD THESIS WAS: To identify the number of EA, the causative diagnosis and the indication for surgical removal of the eye, the chosen surgical technique

Prevalence of unclaimed prescriptions at military pharmacies.

BACKGROUND: Prescriptions that are ordered by physicians but not picked up by patients represent a potential quality improvement opportunity in health systems. Previous research has demonstrated that anywhere from as little as 0.28% to as much as 30.0% of prescriptions are unclaimed, and that 0.45% to 22.0% of patients fail to claim prescriptions. In the Military Health System (MHS), prescriptions filled at military pharmacies are dispensed with no copayment, providing an opportunity to examine the factors that contribute to unclaimed prescriptions other than out-of-pocket cost. OBJECTIVES: T

Detection of antibodies to squalene: III. Naturally occurring antibodies to squalene in humans and mice.

An ELISA-based assay is described for the measurement of antibodies to squalene (SQE) in human serum and plasma. The assay was adapted from the previously described assay for murine antibodies to SQE (J. Immunol. Methods 267 (2002) 119). Like the murine SQE antibody assay, the human antibody assay used sterile cell culture 96-well plates coated with SQE (20 nmol/well). Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS)-0.5% casein was used as both a blocking agent and dilution buffer. The assay has a high through-put capacity and is reproducible and quantitative. This assay was used to evaluate samples from thre

Pregnancy and Motherhood During Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency.

BACKGROUND: Despite increasing gender diversity across health care, disparities persist in surgical subspecialties. Women comprise 19% of surgeons in the United States, yet represent 11% of the nearly 8,000 active members of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), excluding retired or candidate fellows. One potential deterrent to pursuing a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) and completing residency training is the perception that OMS demands are incompatible with pregnancy and early parenthood. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to estimate the pr

[Daytime consequences of insomnia complaints in the French general population].

Insomnia is a frequent symptom in the general population; numerous studies have proven this. In the past years, classifications have gradually given more emphasis to daytime repercussions of insomnia and to their consequences on social and cognitive functioning. They are now integrated in the definition of insomnia and are used to quantify its severity. If the daytime consequences of insomnia are well known at the clinical level, there are few epidemiological data on this matter. The aim of this study was to assess the daytime repercussions of insomnia complaints in the general population of F

Cohort trends in intrinsic capacity in Europe: a population-based longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Intrinsic capacity is a comprehensive measure of physical and mental capacities central to the WHO healthy ageing framework. Studies from England and China suggest that trajectories in intrinsic capacity are improving in more recently born older adults. However, whether similar improvements are occurring in other countries, in adults younger than 60 years, or across socioeconomic groups remains unknown. METHODS: We analysed seven waves (waves 1-2, 4-6, and 8-9) of The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) between 2004 and 2022, including 80 105 adults aged 50 y…

Vision screening of older drivers for preventing road traffic injuries and fatalities.

BACKGROUND: Demographic data in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand suggest a rapid growth in the number of persons over the age of 65 years as the baby boomer generation passes retirement age. As older adults make up an increasing proportion of the population, they are an important consideration when designing future evidence-based traffic safety policies, particularly those that lead to restrictions or cessation of driving. Research has shown that cessation of driving among older drivers can lead to negative emotional consequences such as depression and loss of independenc…
