Day 5 versus day 3 embryo biopsy for preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic/single gene defects.

BACKGROUND: Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has allowed couples with a family history of a monogenic genetic disease, or a disease-carrying gene, to reduce the chance of them having a child with the genetic disorder. This is achieved by genetically testing the embryos using an advanced process called preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic or single gene disorders (PGT-M), such as Huntington's disease or cystic fibrosis. This current terminology (PGT-M) has replaced the formerly-known preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). During PGT-M, one or more embryo cells are biopsied and

Live birth rates after natural cycle versus artificial cycle in women receiving donated oocytes and the impact of female age.

STUDY QUESTION: Can natural cycles (NC) be effectively utilized in advanced maternal age (AMA) undergoing oocyte donation, without compromising live birth rates (LBRs) and miscarriage outcomes, when compared to artificial cycles (ACs)? SUMMARY ANSWER: In donor oocyte embryo transfer cycles, NC demonstrated superior outcomes in reproductive efficacy and obstetrical safety compared to AC, independent of the recipient's age. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Previous studies have posited that NC may result in better outcomes when compared to AC embryo transfer, including a lower risk of miscarriage and hy

Birthweight trends for babies born using Assisted Reproductive Treatments between 1991 and 2018: a national cohort study.

STUDY QUESTION: Has the average birthweight (BW) for singletons born in the UK through ART changed between 1991 and 2018 relative to the general population? SUMMARY ANSWER: The average gestation-adjusted BW for ART singletons increased steadily between 1991 and 2012 before becoming almost static until 2018; these changes were not observed in the general UK population. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Many older studies have shown that ART babies are low BW (LBW) compared to naturally conceived babies. Some subsequent evidence suggests that the average BW for fresh and frozen transfer ART babies has in

Fertility Preservation in Female Patients with Cancer. Part I: Challenges and Future Prospects in Developing Countries; A Narrative Review Study.

While international guidelines on oncofertility practice have been published in developed countries, there is limited information available on oncofertility practice in developing countries, which often face limitations in their cancer health support networks. As survival rates improve in the field of cancer and other diseases, there is a growing need for stronger oncofertility services in developing countries. Given that 50% of cancer patients are under the age of 65, many of these patients are of reproductive age and preserving their fertility health prior to starting treatment is valuable.

Cell Therapy: Types, Regulation, and Clinical Benefits.

Cell therapy practices date back to the 19th century and continue to expand on investigational and investment grounds. Cell therapy includes stem cell- and non-stem cell-based, unicellular and multicellular therapies, with different immunophenotypic profiles, isolation techniques, mechanisms of action, and regulatory levels. Following the steps of their predecessor cell therapies that have become established or commercialized, investigational and premarket approval-exempt cell therapies continue to provide patients with promising therapeutic benefits in different disease areas. In this review

Review of the Current Knowledge on the Role of Stem Cell Transplantation in Neurorehabilitation.

The management involving stem cell (SC) therapy along with physiotherapy offers tremendous chance for patients after spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, etc. However, there are still only a limited number of reports assessing the impact of stem cells (SCs) on the rehabilitation process and/or the results of the simultaneous use of SC and rehabilitation. Additionally, since there is still not enough convincing evidence about the effect of SCT on humans, e.g., in stroke, there have been no studies conducted concerning rehabilitation program formation and expected outc
