High incidence of severe urologic complications following radiotherapy for cervical cancer in Japanese women.

BACKGROUND: Good results have been obtained with radiation therapy for cervical cancer, but many patients suffer radiation-induced complications of adjacent organs. Some authors have reported that about 10% of patients treated with radiotherapy experience radiation-induced complications. We have previously reported that the incidence of spontaneous rupture of the urinary bladder is high in Japan but extremely low in the United States and Europe. In this study, we examined whether incidence or type of radiation-induced complications differs between Japan and the United States and Europe. METHO

Colosplenic fistula diagnosis and management: a case series and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: A colosplenic fistula (CsF) is an extremely rare complication. Its diagnosis and management remain poorly understood, owing to its infrequent incidence. Our objective was to systematically review the etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, management, and prognosis to help clinicians gain a better understanding of this unusual complication and provide aid if it is to be encountered. METHODS: A systematic review of studies reporting CsF diagnosis in Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Wiley Cochrane Library from 1946 to June 2022. Additionally, a retrospective re

Endoscopic treatment of Bouverets syndrome in an extremely elderly patient with Holmium: YAG laser.

UNLABELLED: Bouveret's syndrome is a rare presentation of duodenal obstruction or gastric outlet obstruction caused by a large gallstone migrating through a cholecystoduodenal or choledochoduodenal fistula. Most patients are elderly and often have underlying comorbidities, complicating surgery. Endoscopic therapy should be used as first-line treatment for these patients who are not good surgical candidates. We report a case of a 98-year-old Chinese female who presented with vomiting for three days. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis of Bouveret's syndrom

Crohn's disease presenting as a ceco-urachal fistula.

We report the case of a patient with Crohn's disease who initially presented with a ceco-urachal fistula. The patient was a 31-year-old female who underwent an appendectomy 6 years before presenting to our institution. She had a one-year history of diarrhea, and had recently developed polyuria and a sensation of residual urine. She was admitted with fever and lower abdominal pain. Endoscopy and computed tomography revealed a ceco-urachal fistula, which was consistent with Crohn's disease. An urachal resection was performed, which included partial cystectomy and ileocecal resection. A ceco-urac
