The aim of this case report was to describe an innovative orthodontic treatment method that combined surgical and orthodontic techniques. The novel method was used to achieve a positive result in a case of moderate crowding by employing a computer-guided piezocision procedure followed by the use of clear aligners. A 23-year-old woman had a malocclusion with moderate crowding. Her periodontal indices, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and treatment time were evaluated. The treatment included interproximal corticotomy cuts extending through the entire thickness of the cortical layer,

The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal adaptation and microleakage of resin-based composite provisional crowns fabricated using different techniques and materials and cemented with different temporary cements. One hundred twenty extracted molars prepared for zirconia crowns were allocated to three fabrication groups (n = 40): conventionally produced (CONV), computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing-milled (MILL), and three-dimensional-printed (PRNT). Each group was subdivided according to temporary cement type (n = 20): zinc oxide non-eugenol (ZONE) or dual-cure resin-

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been used intraoperatively to treat patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. For the efficiency of PDT, it is crucial to deliver light doses uniformly. The current procedure utilizes eight light detectors placed inside the pleural cavity to monitor the light. An updated navigation system, combined with a novel scanning system, is developed to provide real-time guidance for physicians during pleural PDT to improve light delivery. The scanning system consists of two handheld three-dimensional (3D) scanners to capture the pleural cavity's surface topographies q

CASE SUMMARY: A 6-week-old entire female domestic shorthair cat was presented for evaluation of a soft bulge and a palpable skull defect on the forehead, present since adoption a few days earlier. The neurological examination revealed an absent menace response bilaterally and apparent blindness, localising the lesion to the occipital cortex. The main differential diagnoses were meningocoele (MC) and meningoencephalocoele (MEC). Surgical repair was proposed once the cat reached adult size. Meanwhile, the cat developed seizures and was treated with anticonvulsant therapy. At 6 months of age, CT

The skin as the largest human organ serves several functions, such as natural protection against internal as well as external environmental influences. Three-dimensional (3D)-tissue engineering has emerged as a promising approach for the development of functional and physiologically relevant dermis substitutes. Mimicking the topography of the dermis to develop a skin-niche model (SKN) that contains epidermal stem cells is still a challenge. This study aimed to develop a dermis equivalent featuring a physiologically relevant dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) topography; hence, a pattern was print

Salvianolic acid B is an important bioactive biomarker in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Current methods for its quantitation are time- and cost-consuming; a rapid and reliable method is urgently needed. In this work, we have developed a simple and sensitive electrochemical (EC) sensor on screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) that was modified with three-dimensional hierarchical Au-Pt nanostructured film. This highly conductive structure facilitates direct electron transfer when the sample solution containing salvianolic acid B is dropped, thereby amplifying its generated current respo

Tumor recurrence following surgical resection remains a formidable clinical challenge, as conventional adjuvant therapies are often constrained by chemoresistance and chemotherapy-associated complications. To circumvent these limitations, we engineered a modular, three-dimensional (3D)-printed hydrogel-based scaffold for synergistic chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The scaffold, composed of soybean isolate protein, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium alginate, and magnesium acetate, was loaded with doxorubicin (DOX) and tirapazamine (TPZ) to establish a sequential therapeutic cascade. DOX exerts its anti

The use of biocompatible materials for circumferential esophageal reconstruction is a technically challenging task in rats and requires an optimal implant technique with nutritional support. Recently, there have been many attempts at esophageal tissue engineering, but the success rate has been limited due to difficulty in early epithelization in the special environment of peristalsis. Here, we developed an artificial esophagus that can improve the regeneration of the esophageal mucosa and muscle layers through a two-layered tubular scaffold, a mesenchymal stem cell-based bioreactor system, and

Bioprinting is the assembly of three-dimensional (3D) tissue constructs by layering cell-laden biomaterials using additive manufacturing techniques, offering great potential for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Such a process can be performed with high resolution and control by personalized or commercially available inkjet printers. However, bioprinting's clinical translation is significantly limited due to process engineering challenges. Upstream challenges include synthesis, cellular incorporation, and functionalization of "bioinks," and extrusion of print geometries. Downstream

We developed a flexible support with embedded polymer optical fiber (POF) sensors for the assessment of human⁻robot interaction forces. The supports were fabricated with a three-dimensional (3D) printer, where an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) rigid structure was used in the region of the support in which the exoskeleton was attached, whereas a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) flexible structure was printed in the region where the users placed their legs. In addition, fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), inscribed in low-loss, cyclic, transparent, optical polymer (CYTOP) using the direct-write,

PURPOSE: Virtual surgery combined with patient-specific saw and drill guides and osteosynthesis materials are rapidly spreading from reconstructive surgery to orthognathic surgery. Most commercial partners are already providing computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) wafers and patient-specific saw guides. Clear benefits have been demonstrated for custom-made drill guides combined with individually designed three-dimensional (3D) printed patient-specific implants (PSI) as a reposition and fixation system in Le Fort I osteotomy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We treated 30 patie

BACKGROUND: Dome-shaped supramalleolar osteotomies are a well-established treatment option for correcting ankle deformity. However, the procedure remains technically demanding and is limited by a two-dimensional (2D) radiographic planning of a three-dimensional (3D) deformity. Therefore, we implemented a weight-bearing CT (WBCT) to plan a 3D deformity correction using patient-specific guides.
METHODS: A 3D-guided dome-shaped supramalleolar osteotomy was performed to correct ankle varus deformity in a case series of five patients with a mean age of 53.8 years (range 47-58). WBCT images were ob

UNLABELLED: In this study, we evaluated the long-term outcomes of 3D-printed, custom-made acetabular implants (CMAIs), expanding on earlier, mid-term findings. Radiographic assessment focused on implant migration and bone ingrowth, and clinical outcomes included survivorship, complications, the mobility score, and the Oxford Hip Score (OHS). The median follow-up was 7 years (range, 5 to 9 years). Thirty patients of diverse ethnic backgrounds (21 female; median age of 70 years) were included. Implant migration was limited to the first postoperative year (≤5 mm), with negligible displacement the

Managing type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) presents significant challenges because of the complexity of replicating the microenvironment of pancreatic islets and ensuring the long-term viability and function of transplanted insulin-producing cells (IPCs). This study developed a functional approach that utilizes 3D bioprinting technology to create pore-enriched and pre-vascularized tissue constructs incorporating a pancreatic tissue-derived decellularized extracellular matrix and human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) aimed at enhancing blood glucose regulation in T1DM. We designed a volum

Cervical cancer induced by human papillomavirus (HPV) causes severe morbidity worldwide. Although cervical conization has been widely accepted as the most conventional surgery against cervical cancer, tissue defects and high recurrence rates have a significant negative impact on women's mental and physical health. Herein we developed an implantable, personalized cervical implant with drug release function using 3D printing technology. The cervical implant was designed in cone-shape with hieratical porous structures according to the clinical data, 3D-printed using polyurethane by low-temperatur
