The association between Good's syndrome (hypogammaglobulinemia and thymoma) with pure red aplasia is very uncommon. We report a 70-year-old male, who had a thymoma excised nine years before. Afterwards, he suffered frequent respiratory infections, which were attributed to a humoral immunodeficiency. Nine years later, he developed a pure red cell aplasia. He received prednisone and cyclosporine, resulting in a progressive rise of hemoglobin level, after one month of treatment. The patient died shortly thereafter due to infection, complicating a domestic accident.

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) is a very rare disease characterized by the absence of eccrine glands, dry skin, scanty hair, and dental abnormalities. It is caused by mutations within the ED1 gene, which encodes a protein, ectodysplasin-A (EDA). Clinical characteristic are frontal bossing, saddle nose, pointed chin, a prominent supraorbital ridge with periorbital hyperpigmenta-tion, and anodontia. BACKGROUND: There is paucity of information about viral etiology of community acquired pneumonia in adults.
AIM: To investigate the viral etiology of pneumonia among hospitalized patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: All adults with pneumonia that were hospitalized were prospectively enrolled at Puerto Montt hospital. A microbiological and viral assessment was carried out. We report a 35-year-old female patient with a one year history of a pustular and painful erythematous dermatitis, located in great folds, pubis and abdomen. She was evaluated in primary health care, receiving antifungal treatment, antimicrobials, topical and systemic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, with no response. A skin biopsy was compatible with subcorneal pustular dermatosis. She was initially treated with prednisone (0.8 mg/kg), observing a partial response. Therefore clotrimoxazole was initiated, obtaining an excellent response after 30 days of treatment.
