The impact of mass screening and treatment interventions on malaria incidence and prevalence: a retrospective analysis of a malaria elimination programme in eastern Myanmar, and systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Targeted interventions are often needed to accelerate malaria elimination efforts. Mass screening and treatment (MSAT) involves testing all eligible and consenting individuals in an area for malaria and treating all positive individuals simultaneously. However, there are concerns regarding the impact of MSAT. This study evaluates the impact of MSAT on malaria incidence in Karen State, Myanmar, using routine surveillance data, and investigates the impact of MSAT in other settings through a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: To investigate the impact of MSAT in Karen Stat

Assessment of the prognostic value of CA125 for miscarriage risk in patients with threatened abortion: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Threatened abortion is a common obstetric complication where early risk stratification is crucial for clinical management. CA125, a glycoprotein biomarker produced by endometrial and trophoblastic tissues, may serve as a valuable prognostic indicator as its elevated levels often reflect placental inflammation or detachment in this condition. To systematically assess its clinical value, we conducted a meta-analysis evaluating the prognostic accuracy of serum CA125 levels for miscarriage risk in patients with threatened abortion. METHODS: We systematically searched Web of Science, M

Reporting quality and risk of bias of randomized controlled trials of Chinese herbal medicine for multiple sclerosis.

BackgroundMultiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common non-traumatic disabling disease affecting young adults. A definitive curative treatment is currently unavailable. Many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have reported the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) on MS. Because of the uncertain quality of these RCTs, the recommendations for routine use of CHM for MS remain inconclusive. The comprehensive evaluation of the quality of RCTs of CHM for MS is urgent.MethodsNine databases, namely, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EBSCO, Sinomed, Wanfang Database, China National

Rational approach to vaccination against highly pathogenic avian influenza in Nigeria: a scientific perspective and global best practice.

Since 2006, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) subtypes H5Nx have adversely affected poultry production in Nigeria. Successive waves of infections in the last two decades have raised concerns about the ability to contain infections by biosecurity alone, and evidence of recurrent outbreaks suggests a need for adoption of additional control measures such as vaccination. Although vaccination can be used to control virus spread and reduce the morbidity and mortality caused by HPAI, no country using vaccination alone as a control measure against HPAI has been able to eliminate or prevent re-i

Technology-based interventions for health challenges older women face amid COVID-19: a systematic review protocol.

BACKGROUND: Pandemics, such as COVID-19, are dangerous and socially disruptive. Though no one is immune to COVID-19, older persons often bear the brunt of its consequences. This is particularly true for older women, as they often face more pronounced health challenges relative to other segments in society, including complex care needs, insufficient care provisions, mental illness, neglect, and increased domestic abuse. To further compound the situation, because protective measures like lockdowns can result in unintended consequences, many health services older women depend on can become disrup
