CircPLK1 Acts as a Carcinogenic Driver to Promote the Development of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma by Governing the miR-1294/HMGA1 Pathway.

The deregulation of circular RNAs (circRNAs) is involved in cancer development. CircRNA polo-like kinase 1 (circPLK1) was reported to promote breast cancer development. However, the role of circPLK1 in malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is unclear. The expression of circPLK1, miR-1294, and high mobility group AT-hook 1 (HMGA1) mRNA was measured by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). Cell viability was detected by CCK-8 assay. Colony formation ability was monitored by colony formation assay. Cell proliferation was detected by EdU assay. Cell migration and cell invasion were monitored by transw

Cell-mediated immunity: correlation of mixed-leucocyte-macrophage migration inhibition with delayed-type hypersensitivity after immunization and donor-specific transfer of cell migration inhibition by dialyzable leucocyte extract.

Active and adoptive sensitization of rhesus monkeys (Macacca mulatta) as well as the development of a novel sensitive in vitro cell migration inhibition assay for cell-mediated immunity (CMI) in this species are described. First, the correlation of mixed leucocyte-macrophage migration tests (LMMI) with the whole blood lymphocyte transformation (LT) and the delayed hypersensitivity skin test (DH) in immunized animals are shown. Second, these tests are used to demonstrate adoptive transfer of specific/nonspecific cellular immunity (CMI) with dialyzable leucocyte extract (DLE) from immunized dono

Therapeutic value of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles in hypertrophic and keloid scars: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Keloids and hypertrophic scars are pathological wound healing responses characterized by excessive scar tissue formation, presenting significant challenges to both patients and healthcare systems globally. Existing evidence demonstrates that mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) can attenuate collagen deposition and contraction in scar tissue; however, their application in the treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids remains largely at the preclinical stage. This systematic review aims to critically assess preclinical studies on the therapeutic efficacy

Biodistribution of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in animal models and implied role of exosomes following systemic delivery of MSCs: a systematic review.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are promising candidates to combat the growing rates of chronic degenerative diseases. These cells provide regeneration and/or differentiation into other cell types, and secrete various trophic factors that participate in migration, proliferation, and immunomodulation. However, the novelty of MSC research has noticeably declined as common barriers and unresolved challenges prevent further progress. A common issue is the low survivability and migration of systemically infused MSC towards targeted regions. Nevertheless, successful clinical treatment of various chroni

Icariin-treated human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells decrease chronic liver injury in mice.

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUMSCs) have been shown to have multiple differentiation potentials. However, a key problem is that only a small number of hUMSCs can migrate to damaged tissue after transplantation. According to "The Theory of Kidney Essence" in Traditional Chinese Medicine, some traditional Chinese medicines used for tonifying the kidneys can be applied in promoting the differentiation and migration of stem cells in vivo. Our previous study demonstrated that icariin (ICA) could up-regulate the pluripotent genes of hUMSCs in vitro and induce cell migration in mice

Migration to breeding areas by male sperm whales Physeter macrocephalus from the Northeast Atlantic Arctic.

Mature male sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) primarily inhabit high latitude regions, travelling to tropical/temperate waters for breeding, where females and juveniles reside in cohesive social groups. Though mating is known to occur at low latitudes, the timing, duration, and routes of adult male migrations between feeding and breeding areas are poorly known. To study movement patterns of adult male sperm whales, 29 individuals were equipped with satellite transmitters in the Northeast Atlantic Arctic (69-79°N). Twelve of these animals undertook southward migrations. Departures from nort

Bone marrow mononuclear cells migrate to the demyelinated sciatic nerve and transdifferentiate into Schwann cells after nerve injury: attempt at a peripheral nervous system intrinsic repair mechanism.

In the present work, we analyzed whether endogenous and/or transplanted bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMC) migrate spontaneously to the crushed sciatic nerve and whether they transdifferentiate into Schwann cells (SC) in order to help repair the damaged tissue. We also studied both the immunohistochemical evolution of myelin proteins MBP and P(0) and the myelin composition of both the proximal and distal stumps of the crushed sciatic nerve to determine the demyelination-remyelination period. Immunohistochemical analysis of crushed animals showed that the degeneration process consists of loss

Influence of murine Toxocara canis infection on plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid eosinophil numbers and its correlation with cytokine levels.

Toxocara canis is a nematode of the Ascaridae family that normally parasites the small intestine of canid species. Humans are accidentally infected upon ingestion of embryonated eggs, and can manifest several clinical alterations such as fever, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, respiratory symptoms, muscle pain and anorexia. In the present work, we investigated the kinetics of tissue distribution of L2 larva in lungs, liver, kidney, brain, skeletal muscle and myocardium. Also, we analyzed the blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL) for levels of IL-6, IFN-gamma, eotaxin and Regulated on Activat

Inhibition of pulmonary neutrophil trafficking during endotoxemia is dependent on the stimulus for migration.

In rat models of Gram-negative pneumonia, pulmonary emigration of neutrophils (polymorphonuclear leukocytes [PMNs]) is blocked when rats are made endotoxemic by an intravenous administration of endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide [LPS]). To test whether dysfunctional PMN migratory responses in the endotoxemic rat are specific for airway endotoxin, we gave rats intrapulmonary stimuli known to elicit different adhesion pathways for pulmonary PMN migration. Sprague-Dawley rats were treated intravenously with either saline or LPS and then instilled intratracheally with either sterile saline, LPS from Es

A Genomic Catalog of Migratory Microbiomes from Wild Birds across China's Habitats.

Migratory birds play an important role in the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR); however, gaps in surveillance data from vital regions along migratory flyways across China limit the detection of emergent threats. Here, we assembled 340 metagenomes from 52 bird species covering 11 provincial administrative districts in China, presenting a specialized migratory microbial genome and gene catalog to archive the genomic and functional diversity of gut microbiomes in wild birds. This comprehensive migratory bird microbial genome and gene (MBGG) catalog includes 5823 metagenome-assembled genom

The catecholamine response to graded high-altitude flight in yellow-rumped warblers (Setophaga coronata).

Chronic exposure to low oxygen (hypoxia) leads to amplification of the hypoxic chemoreflex, increasing breathing and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activation. Prolonged SNS activation redistributes blood to hypoxia-sensitive tissues away from muscles. Recent tracking studies have shown that migratory songbirds can fly 5,000 m or higher above sea level, leading us to hypothesize that migratory birds may have a blunted hypoxic chemoreflex to maintain blood flow to muscles during migratory flight at high altitudes. To test this hypothesis, we used a hypobaric wind tunnel and measured circulati

Dietary exposure to methylmercury affects flight endurance in a migratory songbird.

Although there has been much speculation in the literature that methylmercury (MeHg) exposure can reduce songbird fitness, little is known about its effects on migration. Migrating songbirds typically make multiple flights, stopping to refuel for short periods between flights. How refueling at MeHg-contaminated stopover sites would contribute to MeHg bioaccumulation, and how such exposure could affect subsequent flight performance during migration has not been determined. In a dosing experiment we show that migratory yellow-rumped warblers (Setophaga coronata) rapidly accumulate dietary MeHg i

Hapten-specific responses to contact sensitizers. Use of fluorodinitrobenzene to elicit migration inhibition and macrophage agglutination factors from lymph node cells of contact-sensitive guinea-pigs.

Hapten-specific sensitivity of guinea-pigs sensitized to dinitrophenyl (DNP) contactants and to DNP-protein conjugates was investigated by skin test and by antigen-induced elaboration of migration inhibition (MIF) and macrophage agglutination factors (MAF) From lymph node cells. The delayed contact reaction was highly specific for low doses of contactant and markedly less so for conjugates; lymph node cells elaborted both lymphokines in response to brief exposures to dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) or prolonged exposures to DNP conjugates. Elicitation of MAF by DNFB or DNP conjugate was inhibited

Interferon regulatory factor 6 is required for proper wound healing in vivo.

BACKGROUND: Van der Woude syndrome (VWS) is the most common form of syndromic orofacial cleft caused predominantly by mutations in Interferon Regulatory Factor 6 (IRF6). We previously reported that individuals with VWS have increased risk of wound healing complications following cleft repair compared with individuals with nonsyndromic orofacial clefts (nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate-NSCLP). In vitro, absence of IRF6 leads to impaired keratinocyte migration and embryonic wound healing. However, there is currently no data on tissue repair in adult animals and cells with reduced levels of IRF6

[Intravenous infusion of adult adipose tissue stem cells for repairing spinal cord ischaemic lesions. An experimental study on animals].

OBJECTIVE: To assess if a peripheral intravenous infusion of adipose tissue stem cells (ATSC), after an ischemic spinal cord injury can promote selective cell migration and cell survival in the damaged neural tissue. ANIMALS AND METHOD: An ischaemic spinal cord injury was provoked by trapping the abdominal aorta for 20 minutes in 11 male New Zealand rabbits (2.5±0.5kg). They were randomised into two groups: one group (n=5) received an intravenous transfusion of 10±2×10(6) ATSC at 24 hours from the injury, and the control group (n=6) were only given the vehicle. The functional status was assess

Bacterial overgrowth and inflammation of small intestine after carboxymethylcellulose ingestion in genetically susceptible mice.

BACKGROUND: Detergents and emulsifiers added to food may destroy the mucus barrier, which normally isolates bacteria from the intestinal wall, and lead to chronic bowel inflammation in susceptible persons. We investigated the influence of 2% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) on the biostructure of the intestinal microbiota in IL-10 gene-deficient mice. METHODS: Twenty to 27-week-old IL-10 gene-deficient mice received either 2% CMC solution (n = 7) or water (n = 6) orally for 3 weeks. Intestinal bacteria were investigated using fluorescence in situ hybridization in paraffin-fixed sections of the in
