We present a case of a 49 year-old male with history of corneal neovascularization secondary to herpes zoster keratitis that clinically and subjectively improved for approximately 4 months after treatment with argon laser photocoagulation to feeder vessels and subconjunctival bevacizumab. This is the first report in the literature that describes this novel combination treatment for corneal neovascularization in the setting of varicella-zoster virus and discusses its efficacy.

In this report, we present a case of gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) associated with systemic sclerosis and interstitial pneumonitis. This case showed resistance to endoscopic treatment using argon plasma coagulation (APC). After initial recognition of GAVE as the origin of persistent anemia, three sessions of APC were performed and dilated vessels on the antrum were eliminated completely. In a prospective study, the efficacy of argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) was evaluated and compared with pilocarpine 2% as primary treatment in newly diagnosed primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). Seventy-eight patients (109 eyes) with progressive glaucoma had argon laser trabeculoplasty as a substitute for filtration surgery and were then followed up for a minimum of 5 years. Sensory and pain thresholds to cutaneous argon laser stimulation were determined in patients with post-herpetic neuralgia before and during treatment with topical capsaicin. Before treatment both thresholds were significantly elevated on the affected side compared to the contralateral normal area. The protective properties of argon-oxygen mixture were studied in the culture of M-22 human fibroblasts, piglet thymus cells, and rat brain cells. To induce damage to cell membranes, 200 μM H2O2 and 500 μM acetic acid were used.
