The occurrence, temporal variation, and spatial variation of antibiotics in coastal bays and estuaries worldwide are not well documented or understood. Fifteen target antibiotics within the five classes of β-lactams, amphenicols, macrolides, fluoroquinolones, and sulfonamides were measured during the summer and winter in the water of Jiaozhou Bay in China, which is a semi-enclosed urbanized bay. The concentrations of total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) were assessed in water, sediment and biota (54 species) samples from the coast of Laizhou Bay, to evaluate MeHg biomagnification in Laizhou Bay food web. The trophic web structure was determined with stable isotope ratios. The MeHg concentrations were highly variable among species ranged from 4.8 ng g-1 in primary producers to 411.2 ng g-1 in spotted sea bass. Coral mucus is one of the key localization in the coral holobiont, as this serves as an energy rich substrate for a wide range of abundant, diverse and multifunctional microbiota. However, very little is known about the functional role of bacterial communities in their associations with corals. Of increasing concern is pollution by volatile organic compounds, with particular reference to five aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and two isomeric xylenes; BTEX). These pollutants are classified as hazardous air pollutants.
