Acepromazine is extensively used in veterinary practice. In dogs, it is used mainly as a preanaesthetic and sedative agent, without the knowledge of pharmacokinetic data in this species. Three experiments were conducted to determine the riboflavin requirement for maximal growth of young chicks. Graded levels of crystalline riboflavin were added to either riboflavin-free, purified amino acid diets or corn-soybean meal diets. Chick growth responses were obtained upon adding riboflavin to both diets. Chicks fed the purified diet required 1.8 mg of riboflavin per kg of diet, but those fed the corn-soybean meal diet required 2.63 mg of riboflavin per kg of diet. Retarded growth and leg paralysis, rather than curled-toe paralysis, were the predominant signs of riboflavin deficiency.

Oral coadministration of a single 250-mg tetracycline capsule and 60 ml of a bismuth subsalicylate antidiarrheal mixture reduced tetracycline absorption by 34% without appearing to perturb its absorption or disposition rate. A pronounced increase in intersubject tetracycline absorption variability also was noted. Apparently, the reduction in tetracycline bioavailability previously reported with a kaolin-pectin suspension is not peculiar to kaolin-pectin but can be expected with almost any antidiarrheal whose mechanism of action is adsorptive in nature.

For a particular form (amorphous phase) of physical acting substances the water solubility, in conditions very close to the in vivo ones, has been compared with corresponding biological activities. The reciprocal of the above parameter shows a good correlation with various physico-chemical, biochemical and pharmacological parameters of xanthinic compounds, analgesic alkaloids, barbiturates, sulphonamides. The solubility of the crystalline phase cannot be correlated with the biological activity: the ratio between these two solubilities shows this inability.
