Protective effects of gastrodin against bisphenol A-induced dopaminergic dysregulation and cognitive impairment in rats.

Gastrodin (GAS) is a potent neuroprotective compound extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Gastrodia elata Blume. However, its role in mitigating bisphenol A (BPA)-induced dopaminergic dysfunction and cognitive impairment remains insufficiently explored. Many studies have shown that BPA exposure causes neurodegeneration via mechanisms involving dopaminergic system dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate whether GAS mitigates the effects of BPA-induced cognitive impairment through neuroinflammation in a rat model. W

Bisphenol A in Disposable Face Masks: A Novel Human Exposure Pathway and Impact on the Aquatic Environment.

We identified and quantified bisphenol A (BPA), a known estrogen-like endocrine disruptor, in disposable face mask samples collected in Hong Kong. Results revealed that BPA is a common contaminant in face masks, with concentrations reaching up to 2 μg/mask. Although polypropylene, the primary material used in mask production, is generally considered to be BPA-free, the contaminant likely originates from additives, such as flame retardants, added during manufacturing. With a dermal absorption coefficient of 0.59 for BPA, the data indicate that mask-borne BPA is readily absorbed by the skin. Not

Widespread distribution of BpfA-mediated bisphenol F degradation among members of the Pseudomonadota and Actinomycetota.

Bisphenol F, a widely used primary raw material in the production of polycarbonate and epoxy resins, is frequently detected in the environment and poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health. Microorganisms play an important role in bisphenol F degradation in the natural environment; however, the genetic determinants involved remain unknown. A flavoprotein oxidase BpfA from Microbacterium sp. strain F2 was identified in this study, which is responsible for the crucial steps of bisphenol F degradation involving its conversion to 4,4'-dihydroxybenzophenone through three consecutive re

Adsorptive behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotubes functionalized with iron nanoparticles for bisphenol A removal.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a persistent organic pollutant with toxic effects on human health and ecosystems. In this study, the performance of MWCNT-OH functionalized with iron nanoparticles (MWCNT-OH@Fe) using sugarcane bagasse extract as a reducing agent (green synthesis) was evaluated for BPA adsorption. The kinetics are fast, between 10 and 20 min in the range of concentrations evaluated and the resistance to external film diffusion (external film mass transfer) identified as the rate-limiting step of the process. The qmax was 0.301 mmol/g, determined by the Langmuir model, at 40 °C. The adsorpt

Octreotide ameliorates Bisphenol A-induced testicular toxicity via autophagy-inflammation pathway modulation.

IntroductionTesticular toxicity commonly manifests as impaired spermatogenesis and testicular atrophy. Bisphenol A (BPA), a commonly used organic plasticizer, negatively affects sperm parameters, hormonal levels, and fertility. Octreotide (OCT), a somatostatin analog, was originally used to treat acromegaly, carcinoid tumors, vasoactive intestinal peptide-secreting, and growth hormone-secreting tumors. OCT has demonstrated potential therapeutic properties beyond its traditional use in endocrine disorders. We hypothesized that OCT would attenuate BPA-induced testicular damage through its anti-i

Integrated transcriptome analysis of rats exposed to bisphenol mixtures from the fetal to developmental stage.

Bisphenol A (BPA), widely used in plastics and resins, has raised health concerns for its endocrine-disrupting effects. BPA analogues such as bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol F (BPF) emerged as alternatives but exhibit similar risks. Despite regulations on BPA in many countries, alternatives remain insufficiently controlled. Although the safety of BPS and BPF has not been sufficiently verified, these compounds have already been detected in various environmental sources and human urine, raising serious concerns. While bisphenols are expected to have various adverse effects, research remains limi…

Exposure to Bisphenol B and S Increases the Risk of Male Reproductive Dysfunction in Middle Age.

Accumulating evidence indicates that bisphenol A (BPA) analogs, including bisphenol B (BPB) and bisphenol S (BPS), disrupt testicular function and contribute to male reproductive dysfunction (MRD). However, whether BPA analogs are involved in MRD among middle-aged men remains inconclusive. Therefore, we selected cryptorchidism, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and testicular tumors as representative MRD conditions in middle-aged individuals, aiming to explore the molecular mechanisms that may be disrupted by bisphenols (BPs). By using GeneCards, STRING and Cytoscape, TP53, AKT1, an…

Bisphenol A-induced oxidative stress increases the production of ovarian cancer stem cells in mice.

Bisphenol A (BPA) belongs to the endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) causing various reproductive disorders in females. We analysed the toxic effects of BPA in the uterus and ovaries. The BPA was administered orally with the repeated low dose (LD, 1 mg/kg) and high dose (HD, 5 mg/kg) of body weight on alternate days for 4 months via oral gavage to Swiss mice. BPA administration decreases body weight, ovarian weight and size at LD, but increases ovarian weight and size at HD. The uterus weight, length, and diameter were increased in both the treated groups. The histopathological data show decr
