Huge Bursitis and Bursal Synovial Osteochondromatosis Associated With Scapular Osteochondroma Mimicking a Giant Calcific Mass of the Chest Wall.

Osteochondroma is the most common benign bone tumor, but it rarely arises from the scapula. Scapulothoracic bursitis is quite rare and osteochondroma is one of the unusual causes of this condition. Synovial chondromatosis may occur extremely uncommonly in this bursa. We reported an unusual case of scapulothoracic bursitis with synovial chondromatosis, which is caused by osteochondroma. To the best of our knowledge, there is no defined chondromatosis in the scapulothoracic bursa secondary to scapular osteochondroma in the literature.

A comparison of fasciocutaneous and adipofascial methods in the reverse sural artery flap for treatment of diabetic infected lateral malleolar bursitis.

PURPOSE: Infected lateral malleolar bursitis occurring as a diabetic complication requires debridement and flap surgery because it cannot be treated by conservative methods. The most accessible flap is the reverse sural artery flap, which can be harvested as a fasciocutaneous flap or an adipofascial flap. The purpose of this study was to compare the two types of flap methods performed in patients with diabetic infected lateral malleolar bursitis. METHODS: Twenty-nine cases of diabetic infected lateral malleolar bursitis treated with reverse sural artery flap between 2006 and 2017 were analyze…

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma at the site of an alumina-on-alumina-bearing total hip arthroplasty mimicking infected trochanteric bursitis.

Although the incidence of malignant tumors in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasties (THAs) is known to be lower than the general population, there exist several reports on the development of malignant tumors at the site of THAs. We report another case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma at the site of a THA, which was developed in an older patient who presented a cystic mass around the total hip prosthesis using a ceramic-on-ceramic bearing system, even without evidence of osteolysis or loosening of implants. This is the second case associated with an aluminum oxide prosthesis in English

[Femoral superficial vein thrombosis due to a large iliopsoas bursitis secondary to polyethylene wear debris in total hip arthroplasty].

A 76 year old male patient with a history of implantation of a total hip arthroplasty Perfecta (Orthomet(®)), who presented with an iliac fossa mass, increased diameter of the thigh, and pain during hip flexion and extension. CT and ultrasound show the presence of a giant cystic mass in left iliac fossa about 7 cm in diameter next to the prosthesis. A pseudo-tumour secondary to wear debris after placement of a total arthroplasty is rare. We present a case of a large iliopsoas bursitis caused by polyethylene particles, which caused compression and thrombosis of the superficial femoral vein.

Pes Anserine Bursitis: An Underrecognized Cause of Medial Knee Pain - A Review of Diagnosis, Associated Conditions, and Evidence-Based Management.

Pes anserine bursitis (PAB) is a frequently underrecognized and misdiagnosed cause of medial knee pain. It occurs when there is inflammation of the bursa interposed between the conjoined pes anserine tendons and the underlying proximal tibia. The purpose of this review is to describe the current knowledge regarding the diagnosis and management of PAB by providing an evidence-based overview of clinical exams and treatment modalities. PAB is prevalent across several high-risk populations, including knee osteoarthritis (OA), obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and athletes engaged in repetitive kn…

Neurotized Free Anterolateral Thigh Flap for Large Tissue Defect and Joint Exposure in the Setting of Olecranon Bursitis: A Case Report.

Elbow wounds secondary to septic olecranon bursitis are a challenging problem to treat. Neurotized fasciocutaneous free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flaps provide a reliable soft tissue coverage option with the opportunity to provide protective sensation to a common pressure point. Free flaps can provide coverage when alternative options lower on the reconstructive ladder are unavailable. A 69-year-old man with rheumatoid arthritis presented with septic olecranon bursitis requiring serial debridement resulting in significant soft tissue loss and bone exposure. A free ALT, with fascial tacking sut…

Genomic Analysis of Antibiotic Resistance and Virulence Profiles in Escherichia coli Linked to Sternal Bursitis in Chickens: A One Health Perspective.

Sternal bursitis is an underexplored lesion in poultry, often overlooked in microbiological diagnostics. In this study, we characterized 36 Escherichia coli isolates recovered from sternal bursitis in broiler chickens, combining phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing, PCR-based screening, and whole genome sequencing (WGS). The genetic analysis revealed a diverse population spanning 15 sequence types, including ST155, ST201, and ST58. Resistance to tetracycline and ciprofloxacin was common, and several isolates carried genes encoding β-lactamases, including blaTEM-1B. Chromosomal mutat…

Chronic Kirschsteiniothelia infection superimposed on a pre-existing non-infectious bursitis of the ankle: the first case report of human infection.

BACKGROUND: Kirschsteiniothelia is a saprophytic fungus that is abundantly present in the environment. To date, there have been no reports of human infection caused by this fungus. We report a case of Kirschsteiniothelia infection superimposed on a pre-existing non-infectious bursitis of the ankle. CASE PRESENTATION: An 81-year-old immunocompetent female local farmer noticed the presence of a nodule on her right ankle 5 years before her first visit to our hospital. A cystic mass of approximately 45 mm × 30 mm was present at the tip of the right lateral malleolus. Culture of the aspirated flui…

Pigmented villonodular bursitis/diffuse giant cell tumor of the pes anserine bursa: a report of two cases and review of literature.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a benign but potentially aggressive lesion, characterized by synovial villonodular proliferation with hemosiderin pigmentation and stromal infiltration of histiocytes and giant cells. This consists of a common family of lesions, including localized and diffuse forms of pigmented villonodular synovitis, giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (nodular tenosynovitis) and the very rare cases of extra-articular pigmented villonodular synovitis arising from the bursa (pigmented villonodular bursitis or diffuse giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath). The purp…

Enthesopathic erosive lesions of patella and tibial tuberosity in juvenile ankylosing spondylitis. Anatomico-radiological study of a case with tibial bursitis.

The authors report the case of a 20-year-old joiner suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, with recurrent knee effusions from the age of 11 and radiological evidence of sacro-iliac involvement. The patient presented with pain and bone erosions localized to the sites of tendinous attachments in the upper pole of the left patella and in tibial tuberosities. On both sides an inflammation of deep infrapatellar bursa was observed on anatomical examination. These destructive lesions are considered as rare forms of the erosive enthesopathy which has been described in ankylosing spondylitis, particula

Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) following mRNA COVID-19 vaccination: Report of 2 cases of subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis.

Shoulder pain has been reported as a common side-effect after COVID-19 vaccination particularly after administration of mRNA vaccines. Although it is usually mild and self-limiting, occasionally it can become more extensive causing severe pain and marked limited range of motion. Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration has been reported following injection of other routine vaccines. In this case report, we describe 2 cases of shoulder injury related to vaccine administration due to subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis after administration of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.
