After an uneventful general anesthesia, in a horse negative pressure pulmonary edema developed due to acute upper airway obstruction during the anesthetic recovery phase after colic surgery. No pathologic alteration of respiration was observed until the horse stood up and began suffocating. The horse had recovered with the nasogastric tube in situ. An 11-year-old Andalusian stallion developed marked signs of colic associated with an acute small intestine obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a distal jejunum full-thickness wall induration and multiple small adherent intraluminal masses. An outbreak of intractable impaction colic affecting 18 of 83 horses was stopped by withdrawing dried tef hay contaminated with young Datura plants. We report the case of a 27 years-old man with a left colo-colic intussuception due to a lipoma. CT scan allowed diagnosis of the obstruction, of the intussuception and showed his cause as an intraluminal fatty mass in the left colic angle, typical of lipoma. Resection of the mass was performed and mature fat cells were identified microscopically.

Anomalous left coronary artery originating from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) is a rare, but potentially lethal, cause for irritability in infancy. We present the case of a 12-week-old male infant who was managed as a colic patient for several weeks before the diagnosis of ALCAPA was established. A brief review of previous case reports demonstrated that paroxysms of irritability can be a presentation of this disorder. In the majority of cases the manifestations of ALCAPA can be differentiated from other diseases known to cause a infant to be colicky.

The authors report an unusual case of renal colic occurring in a 44-year-old docker. Intravenous urography showed right ureteral extrinsic compression by an osteophyte of the 3rd lumbar vertebra. After failure of medical treatment, the patient was operated with resection of the osteophyte. The postoperative course was uneventful with reduction of pain.

Water injection was used in the treatment of 56 cases of biliary colic. The method was based on the writings of Zhang Zhongjing about the role of the Qimen point in treating diseases and clinical practice in this respect, water injection being performed at the most sensitive spot in the region defined by the lines joining the Qimen (Liv 14), Riyue (GB 24), and Juque (Ren 14) points.
