Frequency and severity of malocclusions in patients with statutory health insurance in a German orthodontic practice in North Rhine Westphalia - a multi-part cross-sectional study over a 20-year period.

OBJECTIVE: Since 2002, patients with statutory health insurance in Germany must undergo an assessment of orthodontic treatment need using the "Kieferorthopädische Indikationsguppen" (KIG; orthodontic indication groups) classification system. According to this system, tooth and jaw misalignment are divided into 11 subgroups and five grades. The objectives of this study were to determine the distribution of KIG classifications in patients with statutory insurance of a German orthodontic practice (North Rhine, Germany) and to analyze changes over a 20-year period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Since th

Adjunctive growth hormone during ovarian hyperstimulation increases levels of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins in follicular fluid: a randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over study.

GH increases circulating insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), which can promote the growth and differentiated function of ovarian granulosa and theca cells. Reported studies of GH as an adjunct to menotropin stimulation in women, largely those with ovarian dysfunction, have not consistently shown a benefit of GH, despite increases in serum and follicular fluid IGF-I. We hypothesized that changes in intrafollicular IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), which can antagonize IGF actions on granulosa cells, may underlie the inconsistent effects of GH. In the present study of GH, administered in double-b

Development of Data-Driven Models for Just-in-Time Digital Self-Management Advice to Improve Physical Functioning in Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis: Protocol for the e-cOAch Cross-Over Study.

BACKGROUND: Clinical guidelines recommend a stepped-care strategy for patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis that begins with nonoperative approaches, including education, pain medication, and self-care. However, the implementation of stepped-care remains limited. Digital self-management interventions have the potential to support patients in applying lifestyle advice and self-care strategies, but current tools often provide generic support without long-term continuity. Artificial intelligence offers new opportunities to deliver personalized, just-in-time self-management interventions for p

Effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields on cognitive function in elderly subjects (60+ years)-Results of an experimental randomized sham controlled double-blind cross-over study in women and in men.

BACKGROUND: During the regular use of digital communication devices, the human head is exposed to different levels of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF). Several experimental human studies on possible effects of RF-EMF from different technical systems on cognitive performance over the last decades show contradictory results. Most of the results come from studies with young male participants. OBJECTIVES: The present study examined whether cognitive functions of older women and men are more vulnerable and therefore may react differently to RF-EMF exposure than younger individuals.

Age-dependent prevalence of malocclusions requiring treatment according to the KIG classification : A multipart cross-sectional study over a 10-year period from the district of Viersen/North Rhine.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Patients with statutory health insurance (SHI) in Germany must undergo an assessment of orthodontic treatment need using the "Kieferorthopädische Indikationsgruppen" (KIG; orthodontic indication groups) classification system since 2002. A treatment need only exists if anomalies of a certain degree of severity are present. The aim of this study was to evaluate the age-dependent prevalence and percentage distribution of KIG grades requiring treatment in patients with SHI before the age of 18 over a 10-year period. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2012 and 2021, treatment indica

Cognitive Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex in Mild Alzheimer's Disease: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Cross-Over Small-Scale Exploratory Study.

BACKGROUND: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is considered a potential therapeutic instrument for Alzheimer's disease (AD) because it affects long-term synaptic plasticity through the processes of long-term potentiation and long-term depression, thereby improving cognitive ability. Nevertheless, the efficacy of tDCS in treating AD is still debated. Dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex is the main role in executive functions. OBJECTIVE: We investigate the cognitive effects of tDCS on AD patients. METHODS: Thirty mild AD patients aged 66-86 years (mean = 75.6) were included in a doub

Is the analogue cognitive test from the ISPOCD equivalent to the digital cognitive test Mindmore? A protocol for a randomised cross-over study including qualitative interviews with self-reported healthy seniors.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative cognitive decline affects cognitive domains such as executive functions, memory, concentration and information processing. The analogue neuropsychological test developed by the International Study Group of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction (ISPOCD) is a well-established test for assessing cognitive performance. However, analogue tests are time-consuming, rarely cost-effective and can be at risk of administration bias. Digital solutions are comparable to analogue ones, have higher degrees of compliance and enable more standardised execution than analogue tests. Cur

In an exploratory randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study, psychoactive doses of intravenous delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol fail to produce antinociceptive effects in healthy human volunteers.

RATIONALE: Animal studies and anecdotal human reports suggest that cannabinoids have antinociceptive effects. Controlled human studies have produced mixed results. OBJECTIVES: We sought to reduce existing variability by investigating the effects of intravenous delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in several pain paradigms within the same human subjects, addressing some of the limitations to the published literature. METHODS: In this exploratory randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study, healthy human subjects received 0.01 mg/kg or 0.03 mg/kg intravenous THC or placebo (et
