PURPOSE: Cryopreserved saphenous vein allografts (CSVA) are available for use in arterial reconstructions; however, patency rates in the infrainguinal position are not well described. [Meniscus transplantation using a cryopreserved allograft--an experimental study in the rabbit].

In twenty rabbits with completion of bone growth, the medial meniscus was replaced with an allograft meniscus that had been preserved at -80 degrees C for 6 to 14 days. [Replantation of autologous cryopreserved parathyroid tissue in permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism].

Cryopreserved autologous parathyroid tissue was reimplanted into 16 patients with permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism. In 13 cases the number of necrotic cells in the thawed cryopreserved tissue was determined histologically and compensated by using a greater amount of tissue particles during re-implantation. Cryopreserved pulmonary homograft valved external conduits: early results.

Cryopreserved homograft pulmonary valves were used as a valved external conduit between the right ventricle and native pulmonary arteries in 21 patients with complex congenital heart disease. The technique used to construct the conduit was modified after incompetence of the valve was detected early in 3 of the first 9 conduits. The next 12 conduits remained competent. This experience suggests that early valve competency can be achieved if the valve is not distorted during construction of the conduit.

Use of cryopreserved lymphocytes for the indirect leukocyte migration inhibition assay.

Production of leukocyte migration inhibitory factor (LIF) by fresh and cryopreserved lymphocytes from the same donors was detected by indirect leukocyte migration inhibition (LMI) assay. The same results were obtained when fresh and frozen lymphocytes were tested in parallel. This indicates that cryopreservation does not impair the ability of lymphocytes to produce LIF.
