We developed a novel protein chip made of a diamond-like, carbon-coated stainless steel plate (DLC plate), the surface of which is chemically modified with N-hydroxysuccinimide ester. Schwachman-Diamond syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by pancreatic insufficiency, metaphyseal anomalies, recurrent infections, hematologic abnormalities, and growth retardation. Slow growth in these patients has been attributed to nutritional deficits, recurrent infections, and skeletal anomalies. Five out of eight patients with congenital pure red cell aplasia (PRCA), who became refractory or did not respond to conventional prednisone … elieve that resistance to corticosteroids could be overcome by increasing the dose in patients with Diamond-Blackfan syndrome. Four of these patients have been off the treatment for 2-13 months. Seven recurrences occurred in three patients 6-9 months following discontinuation of the treatment. However, all again responded to the same regimen.

BACKGROUND: Patients with wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTRwt-CM) often have cardiovascular comorbidities, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and coronary artery disease (CAD).
RESULTS AND MAJOR FINDINGS: At baseline, 9% of patients had a history of ACS and this was associated with increased risk of adverse outcomes, while this was not the case for obstructive CAD without ACS. Further prospective studies are needed to corroborate these findings.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Minimally invasive techniques have largely replaced open cranial vault remodeling as the preferred treatment approach for infants with single-suture craniosynostosis. We describe a refined method for minimizing blood loss during strip craniectomy, using a high-speed drill with a diamond burr and a novel attachable dural retractor. The diamond drill bit generates localized heat that cauterizes the bone edges, thereby potentially reducing bleeding, while the dural retractor is designed to limit heat dissipation and protects the dura from thermal and mechanical injury.

Shwachman-Diamond syndrome represents a clinically and genetically heterogeneous disorder. We report on an infant with a very severe, fatal clinical course caused by biallelic EFL1 variants: c.89A>G, p.(His30Arg), and c.2599A>G, p.(Asn867Asp). Functional analysis of patient-derived B-lymphoblastoid and SV40-transformed fibroblast cell lines suggests that the compound heterozygous EFL1 variants impaired mature ribosome formation leading to compromised protein synthesis, ultimately resulting in a severe form of Shwachman-Diamond syndrome.
