A case of a 32-year-old XY genotype female is described, presenting with mediastinal and abdominal lymphadenopathy and associated with an elevated serum angiotensin I converting enzyme (SACE) level. Lymph node histology showed a malignant dysgerminoma of ovarian origin. Combined chemotherapy led to a radiological regression of the lymphadenopathy and coincided with a decrease in SACE concentration. The authors suggest that SACE may be a marker for disseminated germinoma tumours and may be useful for monitoring treatment.

We compared the effects of acute and chronic ACE inhibition (ACEi) on the 123I-hippurate in the stenotic kidney of two 2-kidney, 1-clip hypertensive dogs. In the period after clip implantation poststenotic renograms without ACEi of both dogs were normal. Acute ACEi always resulted in delayed hippurate handling. Chronic ACEi, however, induced abnormal poststenotic renograms in only 36% of the cases. The activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme is significantly higher in the intermediate and posterior pituitary lobes of Brattleboro rats than in Long-Evans control rats. The high activity level was reversed by vasopressin treatment. Conversely, angiotensin-converting enzyme activity was significantly lower in the anterior pituitary of Brattleboro rats than in Long-Evans rats, and this activity level was not affected by vasopressin. these findings suggest an inverse relation between vasopressin and angiotensin systems in the posterior and intermediate lobes of the pituitary gland.

A 12-year-old boy with recurrent skin ulceration, chronic generalized lymphedema, and mild mental retardation was found to excrete massive amounts of dipeptides, most (but not all) of which had proline or hydroxyproline as the carboxyl terminal residue. Glycylproline predominated. Prolidase deficiency was demonstrated in red blood cells and in fibroblastic cells. Prolidase activity was present in continuous lymphoid cell cultures at the same low level observed in control cells.
