A thirteen-year old girl presented with acute right lower quadrant abdominal pain for which evaluation suggested appendicitis. At laparotomy, the appendix was normal but a Meckel's diverticulum with an impacted Taenia saginata (tapeworm) was found. The diverticulum was excised and histopathology confirmed diverticulitis from the parasite. Though Meckel's diverticulitis due to parasites has been reported, this is usually from ascaris. Tapeworm causing this complication is rare.

We report a case of colovenous fistula to the inferior mesenteric vein complicating diverticulitis and mimicking coloureteral fistula. This is the second reported case of venous intravasation of barium complicating diverticulitis that mimicks coloureteral fistula. Between 1977 and 1989, 151 patients were treated in our institution for acute sigmoid diverticulitis. Thirty-one patients were operated on for diffuse peritonitis, and were excluded from the study. One hundred twenty patients had localized disease. There were 59 men and 61 women, with a mean age of 60 years (range, 30 to 87 years). Thirteen were under 40 years of age. The work is devoted to the results of the treatment of 535 patients with diverticula of the duodenum, associated diseases being found in 15% of cases. The clinical picture is dependent on the relationship of the diseases: which of them is the leading one at the moment, are they concomitant or competing. The author comes to the conclusion that planned operation of full volume is necessary and expedient. The conclusion is supported by good immediate and late results.

A patient with multiple pyogenic abscesses in both lobes of the liver secondary to asymptomatic sigmoid diverticulitis is presented. The rarity of this illness is noted. It is suggested that barium enema be performed in patients who present with pyogenic liver abscess of unknown etiology because of the association with asymptomatic sigmoid diverticulitis.
