We conducted a cross sectional study of 3958 college students in north of Iran in 2005 with an anonymous questionnaire that was adapted from the questionnaires used in "Monitoring the future". Three thousand seven hundred students responded (93.5%). Lifetime prevalence use of ecstasy, opium and cannabis was 4.3%, 2.7% and 2.4% respectively. The present study explored the extent to which the two personality factors--perceived control and dispositional optimism--are related to psychological adaptation after marital disruption. A sample of 658 recently divorced individuals participated in the study by filling in an anonymous questionnaire. Bivariate findings revealed that perceived control and optimism were strongly related to psychological adaptation.
