OBJECTIVE: Our goal was to establish the clinical presentation and features of pain attacks in children with recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) and urolithiasis.
METHODS: We compared the rate of previous appendectomy among 100 consecutive patients with that of 270 control subjects. We also compared the frequency of pain attacks with that reported by children with functional or organic gastrointestinal RAP.

We present a case of a fifty-seven year-old woman admitted with a one-year history of dysuria. The complaints and X-ray indicated urethral diverticulum. By cystourethroscopy a stone was found in the diverticulum. The diagnostic procedures and the treatment are discussed.

Inguinal herniation of a bladder diverticulum is a rare finding. The diagnosis should be suspected if the size of hernia is variable on urination. These patients may also experience obstructive voiding symptoms. Various imaging modalities may clarify the diagnosis. In our patient, intravenous urography precisely showed a bladder diverticulum in the right inguinal area. The patient underwent open simple prostatectomy and herniorrhaphy. He remains symptom-free on follow-up.

25-year-old previously healthy male presented with dysuria and bilateral flank pain. Abdominal radiography and computed tomography revealed bilateral orthotopic ureteroceles with significant calculi. Bilateral endoscopic ureterocele incision and ureteroscopy were used for complete stone clearance. Symptoms resolved after treatment, and follow-up voiding cystourethrogram performed at 3 months revealed no evidence of vesicoureteral reflux. Adult orthotopic bilateral ureteroceles with calculi is a rare clinical entity amenable to endoscopic management.

The patient had a history of a repaired bladder perforation 12 years before, during a labor with forceps. The patient had microscopic hematuria and an abdominal CAT scan showed ascites. Laser prostatectomy is a recent technique that is evolving rapidly. As new techniques develop, it is important to discriminate between those that merely coagulate the prostate, those that vaporise the prostate and those that do a combination of both. Coagulation of the prostate alone results in prolonged obstruction and an increased incidence of urinary tract infection and post-operative dysuria. Vaporisation alone can result in much more rapid dis-obstruction but the procedure is relatively slow. For small prostates this is the treatment of choice.
