Influence of education level on breast cancer risk and survival in Sweden between 1990 and 2004.

On account of limited recent data regarding the role of education in breast cancer risk and prognosis, we conducted this study to assess the association between education level and in situ and invasive breast cancer risk and invasive breast cancer survival, using the 2006 update of the Swedish Family-Cancer Database. Cox's proportional hazards models were used to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) adjusted for age, time-period, parity, age at first birth, county of residence, and family history of breast cancer. Compared to women completing less than 9 years of ed

Is degree attainment associated with serious psychological distress among Black men aged 24 and older?

OBJECTIVES: This study examines the relationship between degree attainment and serious psychological distress (SPD) among Black men in the United States. Using the Social Determinants of Mental Health (SDoMH) framework, we investigated whether degree attainment serves as a protective factor against SPD and explored how individual factors (age, sexual orientation, state of health), socioeconomic factors (income and marital status), and substance use factors (marijuana use and alcohol use) modify this relationship. DESIGN: We analyzed data from the 2022 National Survey of Drug Use and Health (n

Optimism and Obstacles: Racialized Constraints in College Attitudes and Expectations among Teens of the Prison Boom.

Using data from the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study, we estimate associations of paternal incarceration with three measures of teens' attitudes and expectations: (1) optimism about the future, (2) perceived importance of college graduation, and (3) perceived likelihood of college graduation. Results suggest that whereas optimism toward the future and the importance of college are resilient in the face of paternal incarceration, teens' expectations of actual college completion are reduced, particularly for Black youth. An examination of micro-, meso-, and macro-level mechanisms sug

Social isolation and achievement of students with learning disabilities.

Students with learning disabilities (LDs) experience heightened levels of social isolation, but researchers have not fully explored its various dimensions at school or determined which aspects contribute to educational gaps associated with LDs. Using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, we find that middle and high school students with LDs are more likely to experience most types of isolation. Student with LDs have fewer friends, their friends are less educationally ambitious, they feel more detached and disliked at school, and they are more likely to avoid friendship

Immersion to impact: does one or three years of rural immersion influence graduate clinical practice intentions and locations?

BACKGROUND: Addressing rural healthcare workforce shortages requires evidence-based strategies in medical education. Extended rural immersion programs offer a potential solution, but the optimal duration for fostering long-term regional and rural practice remains unclear. METHODS: This retrospective study evaluates the impact of one-year versus three-year rural immersion experiences at the University of Melbourne's Rural Clinical School (RCS) on graduate clinical practice locations of the 2016-2023 graduating cohorts. Using logistic regression analysis, we assessed key predictors of regional

The evidential role of economic models in legal proceedings.

A complex trauma history is progressively detrimental and interferes with education in emerging adults. Instead of completing education at a higher level where fewer cases are found, previous studies have mostly targeted educational failure at the undergraduate level or below. A shift to a more positive view of the future for complex trauma survivors needs to be explored. A study of emerging adult graduate student complex trauma survivors helps understand the possibility of posttraumatic growth. This article presents a case study of a 24-year-old male who completed his graduate studies despite

[Dentist's understanding on dental anesthesiology--on the basis of a questionnaire on post-graduation study].

We set out a questionnaire for 400 participants of the seminar, to investigate the thoughts of dental practitioners and dentists on duty with regard to the post-graduation study and training in particular, to dental anesthesiology. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Almost all of the dental practitioners felt necessary to receive the post-graduation study and training to brush up their techniques. 2. The dental practitioners felt defective in actual techniques prepared by post-graduation trainings now under way, and they desired a particular training in an actual technique specific to an
