To compare the rate of E. vermicularis infection among preschool children in Ta-Liao District of Kaohsiung County, with that in Kaohsiung City, a total of 532 preschool children from 7 kindergartens in Ta-Liao District, Kaohsiung County and 544 preschool children from Kaohsiung City kindergartens were randomly collected. The efficacy of mebendazole and pyrantel pamoate was studied in two groups of 59 and 58 cases, respectively, of patients with polyparasitosis. Mebendazole had a cure rate of 96%, 82.2%, 71.4% and 66.6% in A. lumbricoides, hookworm, T. trichiura and S. stercoralis, respectively, while the corresponding figures for pyrantel pamoate were 92.6%, 85.7%, 19.4% and 0%. Pyrantel pamoate is considered to have no significant effect on T. trichiura and S. stercoralis. None of the drugs had any effect on T. saginata. The anthelmintic activity of and patient tolerance to albendazole, a broad-spectrum anthelmintic, were studied in a multicenter trial involv … .3% in ascariasis, 92.2% in ancylostomiasis, 90.5% in trichuriasis, 64.9% in taeniasis, and 100% in enterobiasis. Among patients receiving 400 mg of albendazole for three days, the cure rate was 63.4% in hymenolepiasis and 86.1% in taeniasis. The drug was well tolerated, and no significant side effects were reported.

Enterobius Vermicularis (EV) is the most commonly identified heminth incidentally found within the appendix of a clinically diagnosed appendicitis. This simple presence of EV may cause appendicular colic, primarily affecting children, it is an important cause of negative appendicectomy. We report a case of a young male who presented with clinical features of acute appendicitis. Laparoscopic appendicectomy was uneventful and pathologic examination revealed the presence of an EV infestation originating from the lumen of his vermiform appendix. Shells of pinworm ova contain chitin, which stains bright green when exposed to chlorazol black E. The objective was to determine whether chlorazol black E could assist in identification of pinworm ova from skin scrapings. Skin scrapings were stained using chlorazol black E and pinworm ova were more easily recognized, staining a blue-green color.

AIM: Pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis) is the most common parasite among mankind. Ectopic pinworm infections in number of organs are broadly reported. The aim of this report is to review the pinworm infection in the scrotum on the basis of our case.

A woman was admitted to hospital with abdominal pain. A large kidney stone was recovered and a nephrectomy was performed. Histology revealed the unusual presence of multiple Enterobius vermicularis ova. However, no other parasitic element was recovered on further investigations.
