Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in acute respiratory failure: providing competent care.

Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) has been used as an alternative strategy to provide ventilatory support for patients with acute respiratory failure. Most studies demonstrate that the use of NPPV in acute respiratory failure results in a reduction in the need for endotracheal intubation and an overall survival advantage. However, current evidence, in the form of randomised controlled trials, suggests that these benefits may be restricted to patients suffering from acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The clinical application of NPPV involves the

Awareness, knowledge and attitudes towards artificial intelligence among nursing students: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Internationally, nursing students' awareness and familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) remain a challenge as evidenced by the current literature. Interestingly, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region has earned a strong standing for driving national digital transformation; however, this ambition has not been translated into research. Despite growing interest in AI-driven healthcare, empirical studies examining nursing students' readiness in these countries to operate in healthcare environments remain limited, representing a critical gap in the literature. Our initial l

The role of public health nurses in risk factor modification within a high-risk cardiovascular disease population in Ireland - a qualitative analysis.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Health promotion for cardiovascular disease risk factors management is essential to secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease events. In Ireland, post-cardiac rehabilitation patients are discharged into the care of community public health nurses, who have a health promotion role. Little is known of the public health nurses' perceptions or knowledge surrounding their role in cardiovascular disease risk factor management. Underpinned by a constructivist viewpoint, this study aims to generate empirical evidence on the phenomenon directly from public health nurses' encounters

Bridging Theory and Practice in Emergency Nursing: A Discussion Paper on Peripheral intravenous catheter Management Using Tanner's and Chinn & Kramer's Models.

INTRODUCTION: Nursing management of peripheral intravenous catheters remains suboptimal and often lacks integration with underpinning theory. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on the persistent gap between theory and practice to enhance patients' outcomes in this area. OBJECTIVES: To conceptually evaluate the integration of Tanner's Clinical Judgment Model using Chinn and Kramer's criteria, and to explore the integration of these two complementary frameworks with Kramer's Ways of Knowing for peripheral intravenous catheter decision-making and patient outcomes improvement in the emergency

Professional considerations for providing mifepristone-induced abortion.

Primary care clinicians who provide comprehensive reproductive heath care can now offer patients mifepristone (Mifeprex) as an abortifacient option. Clinicians, however, must first determine if the state in which they practice has regulations specifying who can perform abortions and dispense drugs, and they must consider clinical office zoning ordinances, staffing, public relations issues, and reimbursement. This article discusses the pharmacology of mifepristone and misoprostol, professional considerations, and how to prevent and manage adverse effects and complications of medical abortion.

Time of day urinary catheters are removed: a study of current practices.

Nursing abounds with rituals and routines that guide every day clinical practice, including nursing practices concerned with the timing of urinary catheter removal in adult acute care patients. Many of the underlying assumptions regarding the time of day that urinary catheters are removed are questionable and indicate a need for further study. An understanding of current practices has the potential to contribute to establishing scientific principles on which rational nursing care can be based.
