BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are widely used for cancer therapy and are associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in various organ systems. However, data on sinonasal irAEs remain limited. This study investigates the association between ICI therapy and sinonasal conditions, including chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and nasal polyps, using a national health database.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study utilized the TriNetX US Network to analyze adults diagnosed with malignant neoplasms for which ICIs are an accepted treatment option. Patients treated with FDA-a

Malignancies of the ocular adnexa are rare, aggressive tumors with significant potential for local recurrence and metastases. Although basal cell carcinoma remains the most common malignancy of the eyelid, encompassing more than 90 percent of all periocular cancers, several other malignant neoplasms have been reported. Malignant ocular adnexal neoplasms are most commonly of sweat gland origin and include hidradenocarcinoma, mucinous eccrine adenocarcinoma, and apocrine adenocarcinoma of the glands of Moll. The different ocular adnexal adenocarcinomas share many of the same characteristics with

BACKGROUND: Primary neoplasms of the sphenoid sinus are a rare occurrence, accounting for approximately 1-2% of all paranasal sinus tumors. Here we report a series of four such patients.
METHODS: Four patients with sphenoid sinus neoplasms were identified (1%), all treated during the year 2003.
RESULTS: The four patients included two women and two men (mean age 61 years, range 44-70 years). Two patients presented with unilateral abducens cranial nerve (CN) palsies; one had trigeminal facial numbness and dizziness; another had headache, epistaxis, and partial third and fourth CN palsies. MRIs

We report on an 81-year-old woman suffering from extensive acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans with facial involvement. This unusual manifestation may be related to an immunodeficiency state in the course of multiple malignancies. The cutaneous lesions cleared significantly during an aminopenicillin therapy administered orally over 4 weeks.

Facial nerve, the 7th cranial nerve, is a mixed nerve composed of sensory and motor fibers, and its main branch is situated in the cerebellopontine angle. Facial nerve dysfunction is a debilitating phenomenon that can occur in skullbase tumors and Bell's pals. Recovery of the facial nerve dysfunction after surgery for skullbase tumors can be disappointing, but is usually favorable in Bell's palsy. Advances in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allow to visualize the facial nerve and its course in the cerebellopontine angle, also when a large tumor is present and compresses the nerve. Here, we de

BACKGROUND: Lymphomas of the sinonasal tract are a rare and heterogeneous subset of solid sinonasal neoplasms.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize, in this case series, presenting symptoms, treatment modalities, and outcomes for patients with sinonasal lymphoma within a single institution.
METHODS: Retrospective patient data were collected from an academic, oncologic center and entered into a repository designed to capture outcomes for sinonasal malignancies. Patient demographics, presenting symptoms, imaging findings, treatment modalities, and health status were retrospectively extrapolated and eval

BACKGROUND: Ablative orofacial defects incorporating mimetic facial musculature/nerve cause hemifacial expressive dysfunction and considerable morbidity but are rarely reanimated immediately using free functioning gracilis myocutaneous flaps.
METHODS: Disrupted buccal branches provided a recipient facial nerve for 24 gracilis reinnervations. An additional 15 free flaps were used for extensive composite defects. Smile outcome was graded according to Terzis' criteria after 2 years of recurrence-free follow-up. The effects of postoperative radiotherapy, integrity of the oral commissure, and doub

The authors report a retrospective study of 351 parotidectomies observed during a 28 years period. The average follow-up is 28 months. Preoperative and post-operative facial nerve function, type of parotidectomy, surgical management of facial nerve and histologic diagnosis according to the revised WHO classification (1990) are presented. Type of parotidectomy and degree of tumor malignancy are statistically analyzed. It seems that occurrence of post-operative facial nerve dysfunction depends on radical parotidectomy, whereas long term dysfunction is determined by tumor malignancy. Malignant ep

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common salivary gland tumor affecting both major and minor glands. It has different clinical presentations and histological patterns. Outcome of pleomorphic adenoma varies widely with the risk of recurrence, malignant transformation and facial nerve involvement being the most important aspects among other postoperative complications. OBJECTIVES: To study the clinicopathological features of pleomorphic adenoma, its distribution in head and neck region and evaluation of outcomes of surgical treatment in terms of tumor recurrence and other postoperative

Objective:This study aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the pathogenesis, screening modalities, treatment strategies, repair modalities and preliminary results associated with facial nerve tumors. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 12 patients with facial nerve tumors who were admitted to our department between May 2018 and February 2023. The study population consisted of 5 males and 7 females, with ages ranging from 35 to 90 years. Clinical symptoms observed in these patients included facial nerve palsy, hearing loss, tinnitus, headache, and otalgia

The purpose of this article is to review the common neoplasms, infections, and inflammatory dermatoses that may present around or near the mouth. Dental professionals are well positioned to evaluate perioral skin conditions, further contributing to patients' general health. This article includes a review of seborrheic keratosis, warts, actinic keratoses, actinic cheilitis, and squamous cell carcinoma, among several other perioral cutaneous lesions.

OBJECTIVE: To heighten the awareness of the facial nerve tumors.
METHOD: The clinical data of twenty-three patients complaining of facial paralysis who were diagnosed postoperatively as facial nerve tumors were analyzed. The hearing assessment of all patients was based on pure tone audiometry at the frequency of 0. 5, 1, 2, 4 kHz. Temporal bone high resolution CT scan and temporal bone MRI with gadolinium enhancement were conducted on all patients. Facial nerve function was assessed with the House-Brackmann (HB) grading system. Facial electroneurography (ENoG) was conducted on 20 patients to
