Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly progressing bacterial infection that affects the deep fascia and subcutaneous tissues, often resulting in tissue necrosis and systemic toxicity. This case involves a male in his late forties who initially sought emergency care for a minor rash on his right lower extremity and symptoms of a viral illness. Despite an initial diagnosis of hematoma, his symptoms rapidly escalated within 24 hours, prompting his return to the emergency room. During this subsequent visit, signs of septic shock emerged, accompanied by a worsening rash and blister formation. Admitted

Cervical necrotizing fasciitis is an immensely progressive, difficult-to-diagnose soft tissue infection of the fascial planes, skin, and subcutaneous tissue. It has marked morbidity and mortality. In this case report, we analyzed the risk factors, laboratory indices, and treatment modalities that affect the outcome of this fatal disease. This is a retrospective case series of cases admitted within a short span of six months between January and June 23. The cases were followed up monthly for three months, and the diagnosis was made on a clinical, pathological, radiological, and histopathologica

CASE: An immunocompetent 43-year-old man was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis of his forearm. Despite receiving appropriate treatment, his clinical condition continued to deteriorate. Further evaluation revealed subsequent proliferation of the infection to multiple noncontiguous areas of the body consistent with a rare condition known as synchronous multifocal necrotizing fasciitis. Prompt identification, followed by serial debridements of all affected areas, ultimately saved the patient's life.
CONCLUSION: This unusual multifocal presentation of necrotizing fasciitis can produce diagnost

Necrotizing fasciitis is a potentially fatal soft tissue infection that requires prompt clinical suspicion, pharmacological and surgical interventions. Bacterial pathogens, such as beta-hemolytic streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus, are the main etiology of necrotizing fasciitis, however, rare cases caused by fungal pathogens, such as Candida albicans, have been reported following trauma. Here, we present the first case of C. albicans necrotizing fasciitis following an elective surgical procedure in an immunocompetent adult.

PURPOSE: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is one of the most severe healthcare-associated infections. Early diagnosis of NF is difficult because of nonspecific signs and symptoms in the early stage. NF often presents with risks of medicolegal disputes. This study aimed to provide baseline data on the general characteristics of medical accidents involving NF, features of NF, and typical court opinions regarding medical malpractice in Korea.
METHODS: In this study, 25 cases of medical malpractice litigation involving NF sentenced between 1998 and 2018 were analyzed with respect to 3 variables: medica

Snakebite envenomation is a life-threatening injury and a neglected public health issue in Africa. We report the case of a child that presented 6 days following a forearm snakebite with compartment syndrome and necrotizing fasciitis of the upper limb extending to the neck and chest who developed mediastinitis. She underwent multiple surgical debridements and the mediastinitis was managed non-surgically with antibiotics and postural drainage leading to recovery. The wounds were later grafted and the child discharged. Extension of necrotizing fasciitis from the limbs to the chest wall with devel

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a complicated soft tissue infection frequently associated with severe sepsis if an early medical and surgical treatment is not performed. We report two postoperative cases of severe NF after oophorectomy and colorectal resection. Because of the similarity with more benign skin infections at the early steps, clinical suspicion is crucial. Surgical exploration and resection will provide both the diagnosis confirming necrotizing infection of the fascia with vessels and treatment. Also, empirical broad-spectrum antibiotics must be initiated as soon as possible. Regard

Scrotal loss from Fournier's gangrene can be a devastating injury with esthetic and functional consequences. Local reconstructive options can be limited by the presence of infection or the loss of neighboring tissue from debridement. IntegraTM bilayer matrix wound dressing is a well-established reconstructive modality, but only one report exists of its use in scrotal reconstruction and this was not in the setting of Fournier's gangrene. We report the successful use of Integra and a subsequent split-thickness skin graft for reconstruction of the anterior scrotum and coverage of the exposed test

Necrotizing soft tissue fasciitis (NSTIs) or necrotizing fasciitis is an infrequent and serious infection. Herein, we describe the clinical course of a female patient who received a diagnosis of NSTIs after gluteus intramuscular injection. We also report the results of our review of published papers from 1997 to 2017. Since now, 19 cases of NSTIs following intramuscular injections have been described. We focus on the correlation between intramuscular injection and NSTIs onset, especially in immunosuppressed patients treated with corticosteroids, suffering from chronic diseases or drug addicted

PURPOSE: To report a case of periocular necrotizing fasciitis with toxic shock syndrome.
METHODS: This is a case report of a previously healthy 69-year-old woman with left preseptal eyelid infection that spread rapidly and deteriorated into necrosis of the eyelid with toxic shock syndrome. She was admitted to intensive care unit for hemodynamic stabilization.
RESULTS: Intravenous antibiotic and high-dose immunoglobulin were administered followed by surgical debridement. Rehabilitative eyelid reconstruction was performed after acute episode, resulting in patient satisfaction in relation to pe

BACKGROUND: Necrotizing fasciitis is a life-threatening soft tissue infection characterized by a rapid spreading infection of the subcutaneous tissue and in particular the fascia. The management of infected tissues requires a rapid diagnosis, immediate aggressive surgical management and an extended debridement. In some cases early amputations of the affected tissues and maximum intensive care treatment, in case of sepsis, are required. Due to a rising number of cases we aimed to evaluate our patients in a retrospective review.
METHOD: All patients diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis from 201

A 43-year-old male patient with past medical history of diabetes mellitus (DM), end stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis (HD), congestive heart failure (CHF), obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and chronic anemia presented with complaints of left thigh pain. A computerized tomogram (CT) of the thigh revealed evidence of edema with no evidence of a focal collection or gas formation noted. The patient's clinical symptoms persisted and he underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of his thigh which was reported to show small areas of muscle necrosis with fluid collection. These findings in the

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare and rapidly progressing life-threatening infectious process. By progressing through a simulation involving a patient with NF and participating in a post-scenario debriefing, learners will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to properly diagnose and manage patients with NF. Learners are taught to initiate appropriate and timely treatment and to advocate on behalf of their patient after inappropriate pushback from consultants to improve outcomes.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly progressive infectious disease of the soft tissue with high mortality and morbidity rates. Necrotizing fasciitis is occasionally located in the head and neck region and develops after odontogenic infections. Factors affecting treatment success rates are early diagnosis, appropriate antibiotic treatment, and surgical debridement. We present a necrotizing fasciitis case located in the neck region that developed after sialoadenitis. It is important to emphasize that necrotizing fasciitis to be seen in the neck region is very rare. Nonodontogenic necrotizing fasc
