A 48-year-old man with necrotizing fasciitis in the right middle third face is presented. The patient had uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and liver cirrhosis. The condition was controlled by early diagnosis, prompt surgical management and adjunctive broad spectrum antibiotic cover after entering hospital, the curettage of the necrotizing tissue of the right cheek was especially effective.

We previously demonstrated associations between maternal epilepsy and pregnancy outcomes. Now, we seek to determine whether these outcomes differ between generalized and focal epilepsy. A retrospective cohort study was completed using the HCUP-NIS database. Pregnancy outcomes were compared across generalized and focal epilepsy types, as determined via ICD-9 codes. Of 2,596 pregnancies, 1978 women had focal epilepsy and 618 had generalized epilepsy. Focal epilepsy was associated with increased rates of cesarean sections as compared to generalized epilepsy (aOR = 1.27;95 %CI = 1.02-1.57;p = 0.03

One hundred two (102) cases of pre-labour rupture of membrane (PROM) were studied and special attention was given to the histological study of the amniotic membrane as well as to the bacteriological study of high vaginal flora, cervical flora and flora of amniotic fluid, in search of probable causes or factors leading to PROM. In the Gezira Irrigated Area of Central Sudan, transmission of Schistosoma mansoni was shown to be geographically focal, being concentrated near villages and small settlements. In a study during 1981 and 1982 of the entire area around a typical Gezira village almost 90% of the Biomphalaria pfeifferi snails carrying schistosome infections were found in one minor canal near the village. Sites near smaller settlements some distance from the minor canals yielded few infected snails. Focal epithelial hyperplasia (FEH), or Heck's disease, is a benign proliferative viral infection of the oral mucosa that is related to Human Papil-lomavirus (HPV), mainly subtypes 13 and 32. Descending necrotizing mediastinitis, a serious complication of odontogenic infections, rarely leads to chyle leakage postdrainage, with few cases reported. We describe this complication in a 62-year-old woman following mediastinal drainage. By analyzing this and previous cases, we identify early warning signs to enhance clinical recognition of this rare occurrence.

BACKGROUND: Multifocal epithelial hyperplasia (MEH), or focal epithelial hypertension (FEH), or Heck's disease, is an uncommon, benign oral mucosal disease associated with human papillomavirus infection. It is mostly observed in indigenous populations of the world, and has been rarely reported in China. However, previous research suggested there might be a greater prevalence of MEH in the Chinese population. While predominantly involves the lips, buccal mucosa and tongue, MEH was occasionally reported to affect the hard palate and gingiva as well.
