In our study, the functional and biological properties of the developed probiotic formulations containing Lactobacillus plantarum and isatin (Couroupita guianensis) have been evaluated. The developed probiotic formulations have demonstrated remarkable antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cholesterol-lowering properties (67.3 ± 0.57%). In addition, they exhibit high survivability in simulated oral fluid (98.8%). PURPOSE: Small intestinal human immunodeficiency virus enteropathy is characterized by profound absorptive dysfunction unrelated to histology or pathogens. The recognition of potentially noxious physiological substances in the intestinal milieu, prompted the use of an "elemental" semi-hydrolysed formula diet in the prophylaxis of experimental acute ischemic enteropathy. An elemental diet protects the intestinal mucosa of rodents from radiation injury and facilitates mucosal healing. Clinical trials have shown the benefits of this form of treatment in the prevention of acute radiation enteritis and therapy of delayed enteropathy and Crohn's disease.

Six cases of nutritional copper deficiency were identified in a nursery institute for severely handicapped patients. All had been on prolonged enteral feeding of a copper-deficient diet and all had abnormalities related to the copper deficiency. Two of them had leukopenia, with or without macrocytic and normochromic anemia.
