An articulating tactical traction splint (REEL™ Tactical Traction Splint), commonly issued to U.S. military personnel, was used to maintain traction in a pulseless forearm fracture during a confined space rescue, with good peripheral perfusion maintained through transport. This enabled a single rescuer to focus attention and provide care for other critical aspects of a multisystem trauma patient.

One of the challenges of forearm-level hand transplantation surgery is the achievement of osseous union of the ulna given the substantial soft tissue dissection, the use of immune modulating medications, and the diaphyseal level of osseous coaptation. Modification of the conventional surgical technique for an elective ulnar shortening osteotomy provides the advantages of precise osteotomy alignment, a large contact surface oblique osteotomy, and lag screw and compression plating technique. A step-by-step description of the developed modification is provided with a case example.

Both-bone forearm fractures, also known as concomitant diaphyseal radius and ulna fractures, and distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) dislocations are each uncommon injuries in adult upper extremity trauma. DRUJ dislocations are more often associated with radial shaft (Galeazzi) fractures. In this article, we report the case of a patient who sustained a both-bone forearm fracture and DRUJ dislocation, and we review the literature on this unique injury pattern.

PURPOSE: Several biomechanical studies using cadavers have revealed that axial rotation deformity of the forearm bones reduces forearm motion. Currently, the treatment of choice for refractory tertiary hyperparathyroidism is a total parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation of the parathyroid tissue into the forearm. UNLABELLED: Limb-salvage surgery for malignant and aggressive forearm tumors presents a unique surgical challenge. We performed single-bone forearm reconstructions after extensive resections of the radius and ulna in four patients for such tumors. Radiocarpal arthrodesis was performed in three patients.
